I just watched "Shore Leave", episode 17 of TOS I think. It was amazing.

wrath might of been better lore wise, but the Arthas fight was probably the most disappointing thing I've ever experienced on wow.

as a stand alone fight it's fine. But as the culmination of the Lich King storyline I felt it was lacking :P

HLK was stupid because it was too massive a step up over every other encounter in the instance, and most of those heroic encounters were not a challenge for serious guilds even with a low level of the buff. It really and truly did feel like the greatest struggle for guilds working on HLK was staying awake.

HLK would have been fine if there was some sense of progression through the rest of the instance, not just, get there, then face a brick wall for months. Those guilds that did get the encounter down were then bored for the remainder of the expansion. Cata came out way too late; relatively few guilds got late WotLK HLK kills, if a guild did not down the encounter a few weeks into 30% odds were they never would.

The encounter itself was well-designed in terms of its layout and challenge, but what made it frustrating was how it ground guilds down because of the lack of real progression and absurd class balance.

You have fought across the frozen tundra, through my citadel, facing armies of undead, mad scientists, the matriarch of the frost wyrms... all to face the lord of the undead...

LOL I CAN MAKE TRAMPOLINES! HUZZAH!

If the fight were going to be adds based (as it largely was), then I prefer the mentality behind Kel'Thuzad... wave after wave after wave of undead at his disposal. Arthas had a few ghouls, a few big guys, a few ghosts, and a few val'kyrs. It was not overwhelming.

But really, it should have been an element of his adds, but also just his sheer crazy power. And that's something he didn't really have that much of. He didn't have that many "omgwtf everyone just fell over dead" abilities, which you would think would be his specialty.

Fun fight, but I always thought it was more on the level of his generals more than a good end boss fight.

Well Arthas does kill your entire raid.

If that isn't badassery at its finest I don't know what is.
