I never said I'm giving an explanation or anything, I have not given any, because I DON'T FUCKING KNOW NOR CLAIM TO KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON.

But of course, Aestu knows everything, so, enlighten us Oh Enlightened One.

edit: they prepared the iodine tablets two days ago. They also evacuated a 20km radius. It's called "preparing for the worst", not "the worst is happening at this very moment". <---- sensationalism.

I don't claim to know all. Nor do I need to write off others' superior knowledge as "opinion", "sensationalism", "conjecture", what have you, to assuage any insecurity at one's own intellect or understanding.

I know what has been made publicly available and that is all I have made reference to in my reasoning.

There were two evacuations - not one. They initially evacuated a small radius, then a second larger one, and the situation is still not under control.

The only reason to prepare for the worst is the belief it is a possibility. The "worst" in this case would be a containment rupture, something that would require either the vessel to have been compromised or for a meltdown to be in progress.

People like to diss my reading of the BBC, but it's actually very informative.

Quote:
Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano said there were signs that the fuel rods were melting in all three reactors.
"Although we cannot directly check it, it's highly likely happening," he told reporters.

"Idiot" is Internet for "someone who consistently causes me to question my inflated estimate of my own intelligence".

I don't pretend to know all, but I don't call people idiots just because they point out errors in my reasoning.

Ignored? Fine. So much for open-mindedness, eh?
Funny how open-mindedness only applies when some of us are allowed to cling to our fig leaves. When you do not simply disagree with their views, but take aim at the biases and petty motives that drive them - that open-mindedness proves to be merely a pretense.

I say things the way I do, because people like Joklem or Callysta live their whole lives in the margin that most people afford them - when the discussion is over, they can go walk off, without having challenged their minds in the slightest. Anything that contradicts their ideas of their own scientific brilliance or the value of their MENSA intellect is merely an "opinion" or "hypothesis" or whatnot. So what was the point of discussion in the first place if not to change some minds?

Removing that margin is a classic study in cognitive dissonance.

As Azelma's initial question and closing remark showed, indeed, some of us buy into the facade, rather than doing their own thinking and understanding whether or not this guy is really smart or has any idea about the things he talks about.

Is the ignore function smart enough to filter out the ignored posters quotes in other peoples' posts... or would we still have to deal with that shit after all? Anyone know?

Do you think you're actually changing minds by aggravating people so much they ignore you?

I was ok with this thing for a while, but its happening on a daily basis with you now where almost every thread is you butting in, giving an opinion, and screaming at everyone who opposes it until everyone gives up (this includes threads you make as well, by the way). People are starting to send me messages now and I'm inclined to agree.

Consider this a formal warning. I already have a really great way to remedy this and I'm entirely counting on you to ignore my warning since I'm really happy with what I've come up with.

Ugh I see the diarrhea on my phone.

I love it when people disagree. I also love civilized humans as opposed to drooling prehistoric brain-mutants.

(edit: the atheism thread is a prime example of civil discussion between members of exact opposite viewpoints, and as a result things were learned by all, as opposed the crap that this "person" pushes)

(hint: debate has two sides and the goal is a common understanding of the common grounds, not victory or claims of intellectual superiority -- that's the pseudointellectual's method of flattering his own illusory superiority. In this subject's ("person") case, just the avoidance of hard work (derision of grad students and schools) is enough to show the relative imbecility and reliance upon inflated illusions of the self)

P.s. 'nough is enough, go fuck yourself and don't expect a reply to your "defense".

It means the absence of a dialogue instead of a meaningless one. I'd prefer the former.

What is the point of discussion about a topic if not to compare opinions?

There's a lot of people who aren't happy with you either. Of course you have a long litany of whys and what's wrong with them. I won't comment on the validity of said comments, just as I've most often refrained from doing so in the past. But you saying I'm in the wrong merely for sheer volume of detractors is quite hypocritical.

Just an observation.
