I've read that the alarm on the aircraft carrier went off twice; once was after the first explosion occurred. The ship has multiple sensors on board since it's nuclear powered, so it detected a very low trace of radiation some 100 miles out to sea. (This was the basis for his clearly fact-driven assessment that there is more radiation closer to the plant without actually having any proof of that.) The second time the alarm sounded is when some helicopters returned from doing a relief mission. The 17 personnel on board had extremely low traces of radiation. CBRN procedural scrubbing commenced to remove the contaminates; the servicemen checked out fine.

You want to talk about "assumptions", there's a bunch of them.

You seem incredulous they use diesel pumps. Yes, they do, and there's a damn good reason why: so the pumps can operate even if the grid is disabled.

Shielding is most definitely a function of distance; I mentioned "shielding" in this context should someone make a lame argument like, "Well, maybe there's mountains in the way, or something". The amount of radiation absorbed by a barrier is a direct function of the distance * whatever is in the way. Even air provides significant impediment to radiation, if enough of it is in the way. By contrast, it's mathematically impossible for any barrier, however thick, to actually block 100% of radiation, although the trace amount that passes through may be incredibly marginal.

The "debt ceiling" you mentioned is for the federal government. It doesn't apply to banks and other institutions that do loans to other governments. And even the debt ceiling is just a piece of paper; it gets raised all the time as Congress so needs. I'm not saying that's a good thing, simply that the debt ceiling isn't an obstacle to anything. Not that it's even relevant in this context.



So, what you're saying is, it's entirely possible that there is more radiation 100 miles away from a leaking nuclear reactor than there is at the point of the leak. Am I understanding you correctly?

Callysta and Joklem completely proved my point that they're just butthurt that I challenged their own delusions of intellectual superiority.

Callysta says she wants no parts of discussion with me but dogpiles in when someone else also gets butthurt for the same reason, which is that they like to think of themself as some sort of intellectual/scientist/genius and foam at the mouth when this is challenged.

Joklem's only response when having been proven to not understand the science he claims to be obsessed with is to blabber about how head-spinningly hard his field of study is and to link a Youtube about the scientific method, just as I said earlier in this thread - jpeg linking / cool stuff isn't the same as scientific understanding and critical thinking.
