My problem was "fixed" (i.e. ignored) an hour before this thread was even made. I saw mentions of such a thing in one of the PMs, then again in the thread in question. So I made one, and if you read past the third post you will read the following: "I don't give a fuck what happens with this"

Edit: The idea is this:

Most of us come here to read stuff and discuss with people we know/knew/whatever from back in the day, or right now, correct? Not to see a pointless cockfight disguised as a debate in every single thread about one individual's intellectual superiority over others. Whether ignored or not, the damage gets done to thread (although derailing is common, usually it is "derailed" to another interesting, civil discussion). Not to mention the hostility, etc.

Most of us don't need our "intellect challenged", because it already is outside of this forum (not to mention that the hostility makes it a challenge, over time (4 months for me) not to buy a plane ticket and punch a douche in the face (disclaimer: just kidding)). Our opinions and information - yes, but other members already do that often without hostility.

Edit2: contrary to what I've read here, such attitude does not bring topics forward, it makes them stay into place, and over time it becomes stuck in concrete, orbiting around the same topic over and over, with different wording/expressions used. I.e, it gets stuck on semantics (not interesting).

I rarely post on these forums anymore but it weirdly seems that the only things I post are "How the hell are you surprised or upset about the things aestu says" type posts.

99% of the time I do not even read aestu's post.
I do not dislike him as a person, I just feel that every post he makes is of no interest to me.
There are a few times where we had some good conversations and we talk through real id once in a while.

That being said, you dont need an ignore button, nor do you need to ban him.
Just STOP reading his posts.
STOP arguing and fighting with him.

If you just refuse to acknowledge that his posts and opinions exist, there is no problem.

No offense to joklem or anyone else who has a big problem with him, but grow up.

the ignore function makes that easy. plus you don't have to scroll past multiple walls of text to get back to people who are relatively on topic.

This coming from the guy who I could have sworn said he had to read all threads and couldn't just ignore them.

Could be wrong, as normal though.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Moving along,
I think part of the problem is, yet again, people misunderstanding the purpose of the board. I'm going to go ahead and quote a small section from the "About FUBU" post.

Quote:
About Us
FUBU is the brainchild of the forumcrafters on the Bleeding Hollow realm board. After a landslide of piss-quality posts and overzealous moderation by Blizzard, many of the frequent posters talked about creating an unofficial board free of Blizzard moderation. Hence, FUBU was born.

Mostly what I'm reading here is this was a place for Bleeding Hollow players to escape from moderation with a hint of "pls no shitty posts". Correct me if I'm wrong and/or change the "About FUBU" section accordingly.

Quote:
What is FUBU?
FUBU is an "anything goes" board that is created for, modded by, and maintained by the community of Bleeding Hollow. This board is representative of the community of Bleeding Hollow and as such, all rules and regulations are created by the board.

"Anything goes board". With the exception of the few rules we have, I'd assume this would mean anything goes. Problem is alot of the rules are open to interpretation. It's like saying "No running!" and you get caught walking a little too fast for some one and you're accused of power walking which all of a sudden falls under running.

Not saying it should be changed, it's hard to put such rules into concrete, just that it doesn't help.

Quote:
An important thing to take away from this is that all player punishment (except for a repeat violation of rule #1) will be handled by five mods, also known as "The Gays". You can tell who a mod is by either a different colored name or that they have the word "Faggot" somewhere within their title.

Is it just me or am I reading this as all 5 mods will be part of punishment dished out? That's just what it seems like to me unless of course it's supposed to mean that one of the 5 mods will handle it and that only Mayo can do anything about repeat violation of rule #1.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I guess all in all I feel that perhaps the "About FUBU" section and rules should be looked at and possibly revised (possibly including more/less rules for each of the three sections).

As far as I can tell Aestu has done nothing wrong and nothing can happen to him unless you take one of those interpretable rules and bend it, really hard.

Again I suggest making one of the current boards or making a new one and Mayo/the mods only inviting those that wish to participate in that section there. Make it read-only or completely invisible to those not invited. This seems like it would solve alot of problems either way.

/end rant

Misunderstood what I meant when I wrote that before I think necra.
I meant that I have to click on the thread to make that "new post" icon go away.
Reading the actual thread is much different than clicking the latest response and closing the window

Ah I see, as I said, was probably wrong :D

I used to have to do the same thing but I finally gave up and started using the mark all read button lol.

My apologies once again good sir. =)

Yeah mark all read is good.

@Necra: normally rules don't need to include civility and rational discourse elements. That's because it's part of that whole "common sense of human communications" thing, and part of the word "community" too I guess.

Did I expect a ban making this thread? Lol. But it might have had intended effects.

I really don't know why you have such high expectations of Aestu, this board or of the internet in general. It honestly just sounds like you're both two smart bros and your egos have bumped one time too many.

Aestu may or may not make posts that you see as bad or poor but that is not necessarily everyone else's opinion. Just like how I feel you have something to prove (HEY GUYS LOOK HOW SMART I AM!). I could be wrong, it's just my opinion of you but that doesn't mean everyone else agrees with me or doesn't value your posts. I understand it's probabaly just you looking for intellectual conversation but that's just how I see it.

There will be people you don't like and/or feel have a negative impact on the enviroment but you just have to learn to deal with them in one way or another. Eventually if needed, the enviroment will take care of them. We don't have laws not to eat your own shit or drink your own urine but people still do it anyways.

I'm not sure what the intended effects of this thread was as I can only speculate. Either way, they're probably not good.

I'm so sleepy, oh so sleepy.

That's basically it, yeah. But, like Joklem said, I assumed that there would be at least a shred of decency and courtesy (not a lot, just a little). I've had to do a lot more moderation on this site than I thought I'd have to and I'm really not happy about it. I don't know how many threads I've had to lock and/or move because people refuse to post the same thing on a different board. There's just a lot of really simple rules that I'm astonished that have become such vicious arguments.

In the scheme of things, I don't ask a lot and I let a lot go, but its like pulling teeth no matter what is asked of people.

Some of them are, yeah. The thing is that there's been 4-8 people (Dvergar, Eturnal, Jubber, and some others) that have bitched and moaned about every single small decision made around here (ex. Lolcat Shitfest, this thread, etc), so I frankly stopped giving a shit, considering I get the same reaction from the same people no matter what happens so I just do what I feel is better for the site. When the rules were made I assumed people would be adults about it, but I've learned that that's obviously too much of a burden for some people.

As I said on the first page of this thread, this wasn't an official vote to ban Aestu. If there was a strong enough outcry, however, I'm sure the mods would talk it over and come to some sort of solution (maybe a small ban, maybe a warning, idk). He didn't break any rules, yeah, but derailing every thread is incredibly annoying, as is pissing off half the board and making the entirety of FUBU a "xxx vs. Aestu" megastation isn't the intent of FUBU. I'd say that this would fall under the common sense clause, but I apparently have to hold everyone's hand, so I'll change the clause to better define "common sense".

Nope. I'm thinking about bringing Argument Station back, however.

This thread was for a community opinion on a highly debated matter. If you guys can't handle it or simply don't want it, then we can just make mod actions silent and mysterious like the very boards you came from. That way, when the "you're the same as blizzard mods!" shtick gets thrown around every other month, it'll actually have some merit.

EDIT:
Quote:
Speaking of which...threatening people with bans for anything other than a breach of said rules gives the impression that modding here is capricious and subjective. It not only detracts from the stature of the individual engaging in this behavior but also has given the impression to at least one person I've talked to off the board (Burnsey) that he shouldn't bother even applying for board privileges.

Alright, then I'll just start handing out the 1-3 hour bans like I used to (you know, the actual warnings as the site rules entail). Also, if people don't want to join because people they're not associated with are fucking up and getting threatened with bans, I don't want them here, kind of like the people that refuse to post here because "raid" is filtered.

Don't discuss the boards. Don't discuss mod actions. Don't discuss anything, or else it will all be bitching and moaning. Vote taking place? Better not talk about it. Someone banned for no good reason? Don't question it, that's just being childish.

Really man, I get that you don't like it when people disagree with you, but just because what someone else sees as 'better for the board' isn't the same as what you see doesn't mean they're bitching or being babies about it.

You mean warnings for things that aren't actually against the rules?

Last I checked this was a forum to address everything in your post (at least that's how it's used), which is like a checklist. And I can pull the card you seem to be pulling and say "well, just don't click on that "Paddywack Rage Emporium" link. #SoThere

I try to keep things transparent. Our problem (if it's really a problem), I think, is mods acting independently and other mods subsequently reverting an action. I've unlocked threads before.
