22s are a nice beginner weapon for kids. They have almost no recoil and they're pretty easy to manage. The problem I've found with 22s is how lightweight the projectile is -- good luck hitting your target on a breezy day.

AR15 is pretty slick. You can drop targets at stupid far distances. Did the AR15 you were playing with have any upgrades or was it a bare model?

@usdk

At least as far as I can say from experience the lack of recoil and report on .22 weapons makes them a lot easier to shoot accurately because you don't flinch when pulling the trigger. M4 type rifles also have a fairly weak recoil so its pretty easy to do well with them as long as you work on breathing control and squeezing the trigger slowly instead of jerking on it like you see people do in the movies.

The only gun I would ever be interested in shooting would be some form of sniper rifle. Not sure if they are available at ranges though, I know nothing about guns.

Are craziez allowed at ranges? If not fuck that I can't join in :(

I'm diagnosed bipolar, aka crazy on paper...but not enough to ever shoot someone.

On probation now so I'm not permitted to for the time being, but wondering when I'm off probation if it's a possibility.

I'm not sure. Call the local range and ask?

When I signed up with the local range in Virginia, I don't remember going through any special background checks. When I purchase weapons... sure, I get checked then... but going to the range, I don't think so. Maybe if you're renting a gun they check you?

Well I mean like a real sniper rifle. Like the one from halo! But any sniper rifle would do, I feel like snipers could be the biggest game-changers in a military engagement.

anyone know a good beginner one?

If you want more freedom in where you shoot, and have an open area with few people around to go to, I'd get a high powered airsoft gun (1200 fps or more) and .25 gram rounds. That's what we shoot with here. A 1500 fps rifle is accurate enough to need a scope to hit pop cans, as long as wind conditions aren't stronger than normal/ever shifting.

If you want a real gun, a little .22 cal rifle is a good choice. If nothing else you can shoot a long time without a sore shoulder the next day.

If I ever got a gun (I wouldn't) it would be a DEagle, because why go off half-cocked?

2k joules isn't shabby, but it's not arm-destroying. I'm guessing most people who react poorly to Desert Eagles are doing so due to a lack of familiarity, and inadequate anticipation for the recoil.
