I wish I was in the military right now.

Just so I could coax someone into thinking I did shoot bin Laden.

Imagine the hero pussy you could get.

Just read this interesting article about Osama's compound

How could the Pakistani's not known here was there? Anyone think they knew?

Quote:
Western officials have long regarded Pakistani security forces with suspicion, chiefly over their links to militants fighting in Afghanistan. Last year, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton caused anger in Pakistan when she said she found it "hard to believe" that no one in Islamabad knows where the al-Qaida leaders are hiding and couldn't get them "if they really wanted to."

But al-Qaida has been responsible for scores of bloody attacks inside Pakistan, including on its army and civilian leaders. Critics of Pakistan have speculated that a possible motivation for Pakistan to have kept bin Laden on the run , rather than arresting or killing him , would be to ensure a constant flow of U.S. aid and

Azelma, you'd have to be a moron to think they didn't know. They knew damn well. Expect the USA to do something about it like sever diplomatic ties or some shit..maybe not exactly that, but they did know and I fully expect our elected officials to call them out, albeit in the bullshitty diplomatically sensitive fashion.

@ Azelma - Of course they knew. Like I said before, the people of Pakistan aren't completely against Osama and the Taliban/Al Qaeda.

Looks like we might not get any pictures after all. I can applaud the president for taking action and killing OBL (assuming he's really dead) but I find it pathetic that he's still debating whether or not to release the photos. Those animals will televise beheadings of innocent reporters, they'll burn and drag American (or any other nationalities) bodies through the streets of their cities, they'll fly jets into our buildings, blow up busses and other mass transits, use school children and women as human shields and/or walking weapons. We've seen video of Saddam's hanging, pictures of Saddam's sons being killed and countless other images of the carnage of war... so why not show the picture of the most infamous figurehead being killed? (Probably not done photoshopping mirite lolol jaykay bros chill out.) The link says the white house is concerned about the release causing more harm than good but you just killed the leader of Al Qaeda... I doubt a picture is going to be the tipping point!

Fuck the terrorists and fuck this Administration if they refuse to show the picture/videos for fear of offending them.

Frankly, I don't care if they release it either way, but:

While a lot of people got seriously butthurt by the celebrations (and had no problem equating 9/11 victims with Bin Laden), I don't think the celebrations equated "us" and "them" at all, and I think "we" are still better than they are.

I agree with the administration though, what would releasing it help? Here's how I see it, terrorists are going to try shit anyway, but if this picture gets the terrorist base all riled up, perhaps they are more likely to act. How many Americans died because some dumb fuck burned a Quran?

So we can't burn the Quran (despite being able to burn the American flag as an expression of free speech) nor can someone draw a cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad without fear of causing the middle east to explode in anger; Meanwhile, the Islamic extremists in countries like Egypt, Malyasia, Pakistan and elsewhere are busy burning the bible, burning the American flag, shouting "Death to America", vandalizing and burning Christian churches to the ground and killing citizens of their own countries who happen to be Christian or Non-practicing Muslims. They don't need a real reason to riot and hate Western culture or Christianity - their Religious fundamentalists don't allow for our freedoms or tolerance of other religions and for that reason we'll always deal with those fuckheads. By forcing us to limit our freedoms (to say what we want) for fear of damaging their fragile emotions - they win. As long as they aren't holding back then neither should we.

Really though... we just rolled into their hood and put a bullet in the head of Osama bin Laden then buried the man in a way which isn't in line with Islamic law. I doubt a picture being released is going to be the catalyst for the inevitable retaliation (which was probably an attack they were planning before the assassination, anyways). We killed their leader. Don't you think that's enough to stir the pot?! The release of the picture would, at least, be proof of the Assassination to people on both sides of this conflict.

I agree. I'm just as pissed as you are that we don't stoop to the terrorists' level when they protest against us. How about we start by rounding up all the muslims in your neighborhood and beating them to death, then hanging their bodies next to city hall and lighting them on fire.

Just kidding. After all of this ridiculous "I don't care how many muslims we piss off, I'm mad that I can't treat them how I want because SOCIALISM keeps me from forcing this country to devolve into a massive religion war", the second I say "maybe you just don't like brown people", your head will pop like a zit.

He's saying that the extremists have plenty of reasons for blowing american shit up, and they've been doing it for decades before killing OBL. Now that we've killed him, and everything else that's gone on, do you really think showing a picture of his body would bring that much more trouble our way?

Good for morale imo, show the picture.

Mayo i don't know how you reach for these arguments, but it's borderline impressive how far you go.

Not once did I say we should kill every American Muslim and destroy their mosques in protest; if I did, prove it. I find it laughable how we can show scenes of 9/11 on TV each year but we cann't show the picture of a dead OBL; the man who led the group responsible for those attacks. We have to relive those images of death but we can't show a single picture of one dead guy? Give me a break. You bleeding-heart types are quickly ushering in the Pussification of America. When we're attacked by these loonies remember how not releasing the picture saved the fucking world, cured AIDS, and ended starvation in Africa.

But hay, you're right. Showing the picture is the exact same as strapping a bomb to a little boys chest and sending him into a group of Marines... or killing innocent reporters in the middle east... or killing Christians for being Christian. It's not like OBL did anything to deserve his death, right?

Edit: A bit mo.

i'm fairly certain that islamic extremists don't really care that Bin Laden is dead. americans seem to subscribe to the idea that terrorism is a vast global network. i would venture to guess the average US citizen can comprehend how jihadists operate about as much as the jihadists can comprehend how western democracy works. there are taliban, al qaeda, mujahadeen, extremists, red sand, in-sh'allah, nutcases, zealots, etc. none of them work together and they spend just as much time killing each other as they do us. media sensationalism is giving these people much more credit than they deserve. not to mention, americans also have no concept of how news travels in middle eastern countries. if you happen to live in a country that has uncensored internet, and also happen to have access to that internet, then yeah. but the majority of people in pakistan and afghanistan don't have internet. i've been all over afghanistan from balamurghab to herat, to quali-na, to dari-boon, jbad and a-bad. never once, in any of those places or any of the surrounding villages did i ever see a newspaper. and in muslim culture, if someone you don't know, or an outsider, an ajami tells you some news, you seldom believe it.

i find it hard to believe that when told, they would believe it, and if they did believe it, they would care.

Verily, I have often laughed at weaklings who thought themselves proud because they had no claws.

What I find amusing is how the same people who don't want the photos released because it may anger Muslims or make people hate the U. S. were some of the same people who couldn't wait to show the Abu Graib photos regardless of whether they or not they would anger Muslims or make people hate the U. S.

I have a problem with book burning out of principle, even if the book in question is total trash (which any religious text is, if you're using it for anything other than literary reasons). That said, it does annoy me that political/religious correctness paralyzes us when it comes to depicting Muhammad, or when it comes to the perceived "desecration" of any item or historical figure deemed sacrosanct in any way by any organization.

We can't have taboos surrounding icons. They're just things.

Corpses count as "things."
