I just signed up with this service and I'm really excited to use it going forward with managing my money, tracking my budget via my phone and finding ways to grow my money... does anyone else use this? It's a free service and it's pretty secure as far as I can tell (it's made by Intuit, so you know it's the real deal). If yer not using it, give it a try! The mobile app is a read-only version of the web app, but the web app is pretty amazing; budgeting, retirement plans, purchase tracking, monthly/yearly comparative analysis (sorted by categories). It's free so give it a go. Lemme know what you think about it.

My only problem so far is when I bought my home I did an 80/20 split; 80% Mortgage and 20% Equity Line of Credit (A second loan that can be borrowed against.) Mint recognizes the 20% Loan as a Credit Card which is completely fucking up my budget. Looking for a way to fix that... otherwise, loving it.

I'm not sure how Mint.com will integrate with stock trades so you'll have to let us know how that works!

Just curious, are you ready to lose money playing in the stock market? It's like a casino - you can make money in the stock market but you can also lose money, too. My biggest fear with investing (and gambling) is I'm afraid to lose my money because I feel I know how hard it is to come by.

Do you have a monthly budget that covers all your expenses and savings, where you're in the black each month?

I was thinking about using it but then Chase released an app for Android so I no longer need to.

Well in all honesty, I'm using some money I saved up from my internship last summer that was just sitting in the bank (about $2.7k). I haven't bought any stocks yet, but since I only got $0.04 in interest when it matured I was like fuck this lol. I have to learn at some point though, right? But I am kinda skittish when it comes to stocks, credit cards, finances etc. so if anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated!

My advice is to wait before investing. You've got 2.7K of money (which is a lot of money so please don't pretend that it's nothing - it's more than a lot of people have) that might be useful at some point in the near future, especially with the economic uncertainty and rising costs. Maybe you can transfer that money to a higher-return savings account so you can easily get access to it if you need it. Also, in a savings account, you don't have to worry about your money vanishing from some crazy event that might make the market drop.

I'm guessing you work and have some form of steady income? If you do, really sit down and think about how much money you spend (each month) on things like food, gas, games, movies, dates, etc. Then see how much you have left over (Income - Expenses)... with that money that's remaining, commit to putting a large portion of it in the bank and just saving it for an emergency (your health, broken car, etc.), then with whatever is left over (not saved or used in your monthly budget) use that to play around with in the stock market. You should always make sure you're gambling with money you can afford to lose and by budgeting some investment money, you can be sure that will happen.

PS: PM me and I can help you set something up in private. I'm not sure how comfortable you are discussing all this in public. I'm heading home. Enjoy the weekend.

I did not mean to make it sound like nothing, apologies for coming off that way. I will actually take you up on that offer for help though, since from what I've read you really seem to know what you're doing (you and your wife, gotta give her some credit too ;) ). I will PM you when I have an idea of my monthly expenses. Thanks!
