So, I bought a 250GB HD from Amazon.com and I just received it in the mail but something about it looks off - it has multiple languages supported on the front, has a label that says, "USK ab 12 freigegeben" and it has a PEGI.info rating. Also, the underside of the package insert says "Made in China", but the plastic package has a sticker that reads "Made in Thailand." I ordered the product from goHastings.com via Amazon and goHastings has a great rating.

Question is: Did I get something that will work in an American XBox 360, did I get some knock-off clone or am I good to go?

Do the Europeans still use PAL?

Dunno what PAL is. Anyways, I contacted the company that sold it and they were like, "What? Um, just try it out and if it doesn't work we'll figure out how to get you the right one." So to save myself the hassle, I called Microsoft and the bro on the line said, "Um, I dunno if it will work. Let's try it?" Then I told him I could try it by myself and there was no need for him to be on the phone.

It's plugged up and it's copying a lot of stuff over... and holy hell did I spend a lot of money on Rock Band 2 songs. If anyone is in the area and wants to play, lemme know so it doesn't go to waste.

Will update if this works or not in case someone else is wondering.

I'm not exactly sure what PAL is, but I know that anything that is PAL won't work with US hardware since we use something called NTSC. That's why I'm not able to buy a game in, say, England (they use PAL) and then bring it over here to use on my 360 (NTSC). Not that I would anyway, since everything is more expensive there.

Jubber uses PAL

The US power grid operates at 60hz. Your tv's refresh rate was based on half that wave, which allowed for display of 29.someodd frames per second via NTSC.

PAL, due to the power grid overseas (50hz), has a 25fps display. This really only came into play with things using the antenna modulator. The RCA (composite) input still allowed for you to play a PAL game on, say, a US Dreamcast, but the display would be slightly off due to the slightly different resolution between PAL & NTSC televisions.

Game consoles, for the most part, have interchangeable parts, the rest is handled by the video output card, which on newer systems would be able to be reprogrammed for whatever output via a driver modification. A hard drive, as you found, is universal if it's for an xbox. Microsoft isn't Sony when it comes to overdoing region blocks.

The difference between PAL & NTSC Super Nintendo was just two clips in the cartridge slot, and popping the ground pin on the lockout chip on the motherboard.

Eh, turns out there was no problem. Everything copied over minus a single Rock Band song.

Was worried for a minute, too, because when you copy your stuff to a new HD it deletes the stuff from the old one... and I was thinking I lost everything if the system didn't boot up because of some Regional bullshits.

In other news, Alan Wake is a pretty enjoyable game. It has invaded my dreams for two nights in the last couple days and shadow figures, flying tables and trains and evil bitches don't make for good dreams.
