Looks pretty cool. I don't use my Facebook account at all, in large part because of the inability to only share things with certain groups (my conservative Christian family probably wouldn't appreciate many of the things I talk about with my liberal atheist friends), so Circles sounds really good. I think the problem will be people not wanting to switch - social networks don't work if nobody's on them.

Google and Facebook really hate each other.

Good article here. Google is very afraid of Facebook.

This is why I have two Facebooks. One for you guys and all the other cool kids, and one for ex-girlfriends, family members, and people upon which I don't care to spend a lot of time.

I kind of wonder how "Hi, we're GOOGLE, and we'd like to take over as the big dog in social networking" is going to play off the federal government's "Hi, we're THE FEDERAL MOTHER-FUCKING GOVERNMENT, and we're looking at your big, fat ass for anti-trust shit?"

Jubber

The worst thing they could do is make Google break up it's entities (search, social networking, docs, mail, and chat).

Really, the government won't try to do anything like that until Google really pisses them off. I mean...they already don't like Google because Google won't hand over all the search data they have on the likes of you and me. You know, because the government wants that shit to "root out terrorism"...you know...like if you search "how to make a pipe bomb" the government wants to know so they can black bag you and send you off to Gitmo.

Google's power is a cause for concern though. Especially with them exploring high speed internet connections "Google Fiberoptics" or whatever it's called. Of all the companies on the internet, Google has the biggest potential to literally "own" the internet.

In this life we're screwed no matter what we do. It will either be the government taking away our freedoms, or the corporations doing the same thing and shoving adds and products down our throats.

I just hope I'm dead before it all starts to burn.

Google+, meaning it's what... better?

Does that mean Google+ can help me remember the fellow with the flag?

FYI you can do exactly that with Facebook. You can set who can see any given post or set a default for who can. You can do it by individual friends or organize them into groups and include/exclude those groups. Look at the little lock icon when posting something.

Hmm, interesting. Groups aren't what I was looking for, since everyone in them has to agree to join, but friend lists seem to fit the bill. I may try organizing my friends into lists and see how that goes. Editing friend lists doesn't work in Chrome for some reason though...
