you should google mike rowe's presentation about starting an ad campaign for promoting skilled labor.
we have enough philosophy majors.
Cutting education funding hurts our production of skilled labor. The guys hanging out down at Lowes aren't skilled laborers. Kids reading at a 4th grade level who can't do fractions aren't going to be skilled laborers. The education system is failing, but it's just the end of the line of failures. Remember that comment I made about the American Dream hurting America? This is a big part of it right here. It used to be about getting a good stable job and doing alright in life. That might still be the AD for foreigners, but to American kids it's all riches and being famous. Working in a factory is almost looked down on. Most American kids don't want to do shift work producing things, and frankly they haven't been prepared by their parents or their schools to learn a trade and work right out of high school. We go through so many kids at our entry level position I don't even bother to learn their names anymore, and I've only been there 5 years now.
