Norway's legal system is so fucking stupid it makes my head hurt. And yes they're horribly inept to deal with a crisis but I'm guessing that will change in a few months when they pass some knee-jerk legislation somewhat similar to what happened here after 9/11 though I'm guessing not nearly as drastic.

Sensationalist media at it's finest. 0 consideration for the actual situation and possible reasons for what happened. Just a standard Euro-bash during a tragic event. So stupid.

As to the prison is there actual evidence that the prison makes people more likely to commit crimes or is it the opposite and inmates are nearly always successfully rehabilitated.

Norway and America aren't comparable. Norway has a much more stable - and completely homogenous - society.

Habeas corpus is crucial to civil freedom, and the only reason Norway gets by without it is that there is no present incentive for its absence to be abused. Arbitrary detention may sound good when the guy is a homicidal maniac but it's bad law.

Part of the problem is that countries that were once united as a single race/culture now have huge immigrant populations that are of different races and do not share the same cultural values. That seems to be at least part of what set this crackpot off his nut. There aren't many countries in Europe that can lay claim to a homogeneous culture, even in an incomplete sense.
