It doesn't matter to me what you get a degree in, as long as you get a career in the field.

What bothers me is that in some cases you are required a college education, but NOT a degree in the same field as the job for which you're applying.

They want proof that you can shovel shit and slip through the cracks for four years before they'll hire you to waste company time.

College is social bias in action.

Are you white and middle-class? Do you have affirmative action? Do you have legacy/patronage?
Or are you PWT? Minority without legal or political affiliation? Lower middle class living hand-to-mouth?

That is the real, actual reason for the status quo. That is why colleges are basically mills and the most banal fucks on the planet spend four years there to get an increasingly meaningless seal of social approval.

This is also why colleges are fervently opposed to both exit exams and use of standardized testing. Because social bias is fundamentally opposed to meritocracy. They don't like fair and equitable systems that leave no room for bias. That is why all entrance and exit selections are subjective.

I have a 4.0 and my friend who parties every weekend wonders why she can't make better than a C on any of our tests. I just kind of /facepalm

My wife is one of those types. She got her undergrad in economics but went on to work in the geospatial intelligence community which isn't remotely close to economics. The company she interned with all throughout college picked her up as a full-time and gave her a job that she loves. All is well that ends well, I guess.

I wouldn't mind people getting jobs out of their fields so much if college wasn't such a big "HEY YOU HAVE TO COME HERE, but you can kinda do whatever you want."
