So what you're saying is, there was a riot, a big gang of kids, impossible to 1v1 because it was a big group, and the cops were running around doing their own thing.

The only constant in what you are saying is that you keep trying to cast the variables such that the police could not have been wrong no matter how great the evidence to the contrary.

Quote:
That's why I was training with SWAT. I was part of an engineer battalion the National Guard and we were to stand ready in case there were riots in DC when the G8 summit (could've been G20, IMF or some other money-related summit that get's all the stupid fuckers in a riotous mood - I forget which it is) came to town in Washington DC.

So you oppose high taxes but you live off the government.

My 'living off the government' was a three-year period of a one-weekend-a-month job with the National Guard, paid for by the State of Virginia in exchange for my service. Virginia isn't in the same boat as the Federal Government in terms of taxes and/or budget since Virginia makes cuts when needed, has low taxes and few budget problems.

my local police department ^.^ i'd say florida sux, but im sure everyone has stories like this in their area
have heard reports of officers trying to recruit people into the local kkk chapter while having them pulled over for traffic violations on more than a few occasions, my high school actually had a bit of a klan problem but thats even more off topic >.>

Sure use two completely non-related groups to backup your idiotic perception. Are there good Christians?Jews?White people?Black?

Just because you have a group of extremists doesn't mean they are all bad. Opinions are just that, not facts, you can't disprove all of their beliefs therefore can't call all of them bad. Whether we agree with them is different, mafia members sure there are probably some good. Like the ones that didn't have a choice and were grandfathered in but never committed a crime. I am sure there are examples of those, I am guessing but then again so are you since I doubt you've met/know every mafia member.

Stupid question but let me see if I am close on your logic.

Who watches the watchers? I am guessing the cops boss watches the cop. The cops boss is watched by his boss who is watched by his boss who is watched by his boss, once you get to the top? Where is the relevance I am sure you already figured that out. All actions are accountable, cops protect their own. Does it make it right? Hell no. But how many things in the world could you point out that are handled wrong? And you wanna bitch about cops? Who are you going to call if your house gets broken into? Get robbed on the street? Need emergency help?

Don't bite the hand that you expect to help you.

The other day I was taking garbage out of my own apartment and went around the building under some tape surrounding a totally halted tree cutting job (no equipment was present either), that was also completely blocking the way to the dumpster behind the apartment. After I come out, cop walks up and harangues me for 30 minutes about how he was "about to push me out of the way" and "everyone else here is obeying the laws", then made a big show of radioing in to see if I had any outstanding warrants, "you're stopped, you can't move. You mad?"

Yeah, obviously he really thinks I'm wanted on felony charges somewhere because I'm taking out my garbage out of my own apartment. Really. Or maybe he's just a punk.

So I asked the guy's name and badge number, saying I was going to report him for harassment and abuse of authority. He gave his name and made a big show of flashing his badge. When he saw me actually pull out a PDA and type all this down he got visibly nervous and said, "never mind my name, you just need my badge number" (he gave an Italian name despite being Hispanic). I then took a picture of the entire scene (this punk then insisted on striking a tough-guy pose in the picture, probably to carry on his childish little act but also to show he wasn't nervous about what I was doing).

So then after wasting half an hour of my time for absolutely no reason other than to power trip, I went through the motions of calling up Internal Affairs. I don't need a crystal ball to know nothing will come of it. The cops protect their own more vigilantly than the public.

It's a typical experience and I've had many such others.

I don't generally read the domestic news - it actually didn't occur to me that this is one topic where I am influenced by it - but I have read news stories where cops are very obviously guilty of serious crimes but get off because of the organization. Now, saying that the news "portrays cops in a bad light" could only be relevant if those stories aren't true or representative of the whole. Which they are. If you believe otherwise, then show me good evidence - where the cops turn on their own when misdeeds are suspected.

Certainly, it's consistent with my own experience on this and similar occasions, so, yeah, whatever.

So as many people have said, you crossed tape you shouldn't have. You are probably also the kind of person had you been hurt after crossing the tape would have sued the people who put the tape there. It is simple they put the tape there for a reason, if you choose to ignore it you pay the consequences. If all the cop did was harass you then count yourself lucky, I am sure he could have used some obscure law no one has heard of to cite you.

Doesn't matter how the media portrays them, the decisions aren't made by the media or the people who watch it. They are made by the organization that employs them, of course they will televise when the cop gets off. And I am sure that they televise when a cop is indicted, but your focus is on all the WRONG in the world not what is done right.

Riddle me this.....If you get bad service at a restaurant one time, and the next is a good experience, which will you remember?

It is my opinion the world is flat.

Also, see sig.

If hierarchies ensured accountability, dictatorship would be a more just system of government than democracy.

So why do you think it's okay to badmouth Congress but not police? They're both government employees who keep things going.

Who will I call if I need my internet fixed? Does that make it wrong to bite the hand of Comcast?
Why the double standard?

Your post is based on the faulty premise that the police can do no wrong and that there was in fact some danger when clearly there was not.

You say you believe in freedom but what freedom really means to you is freedom from thought. An obligation of living in a free society is doing one's own thinking. When you refuse that challenge, freedom dies. Which brings us here and people wonder why.

TL;DR.

If it's true that our species is alone in the universe, then I'd have to say the universe aimed rather low and settled for very little.

So though the area was clearly marked, you are allowed to walk through it if there's no danger?

So you can park in a handicapped zone if you know no handy's are gonna try to park there too, right?
