It's worth pointing out that the South lost the Civil War in large part because it was a slave society - they had to defend against slave revolts, and their slave-based economy was no match for that of the industrial North. Also their reliance on slavery discouraged immigration and limited the South's growth and innovation.

Cities like Austin or Dallas or Miami or St. Louis are propped up by cheap black labor, but if slavery hadn't been banned - or if the entire US had been a slave society from the outset - we'd still be a third-world country. Serfdom was equally self-defeating in Russia, and that's why it was banned.

Slavery sounds good on paper, like it's something that makes a country richer, but in practice, it's an albatross.

Slave's were black; they were the workhorse behind our early development and they contributed (willingly or not) to the construction and rise of this nation. Hoodrats are mostly black; they do little of positive value and they just kinda drive up crime and poverty. I'm not saying all inner-city blacks are Hoodrats and are less than slaves. Of course, you would take it that way.

Instead of looking like an idiot time and time again, just sit by while the adults are talking next time.

No they didn't. They worked on farms so a handful of Southern landowners could cash in. No different than in any other loser feudal country. No different than in Russia or China or India or Turkey or any other feudal-age country that got owned during the Victorian era.

The engine of this country is, and has always been, innovation and enterprise.

Slaves harvesting cotton with Iron Age implements isn't part of that. What was going on in the North was - shipbuilding, manufacture, investment.

Conversely, slaves don't get paid and therefore do not drive national progress from consumer culture - the building of industry and infrastructure to provide things people want and need. That consumer-driven progress has been the making (and, arguably, the unmaking) of America.

Even some redneck harvesting his corn can buy a radio or refrigerator or car or what have you built in a factory. A slave harvesting someone else's cotton can't.

The North would have been a first-world power without the South and their slaves.
The South would have been no better off than Mexico without the North.



I don't deny that. But what got us in this mess in the first place was the legacy of slavery - a slavish culture and broken family life. That must be corrected, and it is arrogant to think that everyone is capable of self-liberation. White people aren't either.

Which is why the viewpoint is racist - it's a double standard in terms of application of experience, in terms of what slavery did and did not do for the country, and what hoodrats should and should not be able to do.

You don't draw that parallel between Russian serfs, or poor white trash, because one very important variable has changed.

I was being serious when i said that immigrants usually come here and contribute to society.

What about the implication that everyone else is lazy?

It blows my mind that you guys can say things like "those hood rats are nothing but lazy and are a drain on our society" and have convinced yourselves that its 100% not offensive in any way, shape, or form.

EDIT: Especially since "hood rat" is a racial slur.

Hood rats are a drain. Black people are not. Red necks are a waste of life. White people are not.

When I mention a small group within a larger one, I do not mean the larger one is bad. I mean the small group within the larger one is bad. How can you not grasp this?

Most of the hood rats are lazy. To deny that is to be obstinate.

The reason why they are lazy is because of their upbringing and environment.

As individuals, people should be judged by their character. There's no excuse for one's own choices. But character is a product of environment...and to change the character of a people, the environment must change.

That environment is broken families and social disenfranchisement. I don't mean just Jim Crow laws - the fact is, white people tend to see the black first and the person second. It's mostly subconscious, and that's why we have these weird, uniquely American psychological labyrinths.

Who said I convinced myself it wasn't insulting? I'm aware it's insulting - that was the point. What wasn't insulting is saying a slave has done more than a hoodrat... that's probably more factual than anything, considering Hoodrats are pretty much tumors of the city.

Also, Hoodrat isn't racial since any race can be a Hoodrat. Nice try at calling us racists... again.
