Do you find it interesting/educational to learn about American thought from FUBU?

I don't mean the stupid back-and-forth about Dems vs GOP - I mean the analysis of our society, or American historical events and political figures little referenced outside America, like the Civil War or further past former presidents. I doubt many non-Americans would recognize those famous pictures of Nixon boarding the helicopter or Truman showing off a newspaper.

Personally, I'd find it interesting to gain a sense of context about other cultures from their internal discussions. Do you people feel that way?

Being professional social critics; Bill Hicks, George Carlin and Richard Pryor pretty much sum up my view of America.



Not really, no.

Professional means you get paid.
People pay for what they want [to hear], not what they need [to hear].
Therefore, professional social critics are in all probability the least credible personages.

Comedians generally have no qualms telling you exactly how they see it, whether you want to hear it or not.

Especially Carlin.

I don't think you can take everything about a culture from its comedians. Comedy is extremest by its very nature, so I don't think it's a good way to measure an entire culture.

I actually think a place like FUBU would be much better for gauging American culture...simply because we have so many different personalities/viewpoints.

Comedians are a great litmus test for a snapshot of society as a whole. it's social commentary at its finest.

In case any of you non-Americans are curious, our two most reputable news sources are The Daily Show and The Onion.

But since Reddit is absolutely horrible and stuck in the year 2002 only hipsters visit that shit site anymore.

It's sad how true this is.
