am I suposed to tip the pizza delivery guy? There was already a delivery charge...

Delivery guys get paid minimum wage or very close to it here generally. The $2 they might get for delivery barely pays for some peoples gas now. At the pizza shack Weena and I worked at they made $5.25/hour and got $2 for each delivery. Our delivery radius was 10 miles in every direction and farther in some cases. That $2 on every delivery would never, ever pay for the gas. Then you think about general car wear and such.

My roommate works as a pizza delivery guy for Marco's. His gas is 100% reimbursed by the company and he makes a little more than minimum wage iirc.

Our guys got nothing but the $2 for delivery

The tip in France is included in the bill. It's not optional, and is basically a service tax

From what I've heard about dining in France and the service offered...being forced to pay it for shitty service would infuriate me.

Don't know what you've heard, but I've been to several dozen restaurants in France and the service was never any worse than it would be in the USA.

I can count on one hand the number of times I've ever stiffed someone on a tip, and still have fingers left over.

I honestly don't like it when people come over and ask me how my food is. If you're coming to ask me if I want to be topped off, that's perfectly ok, but I really hate the status reports, especially if the food is bad and I have to lie through my teeth without making the server feel like shit.

Why would the server get mad? They aren't the ones making bad food. You'll probably get something free is discounted if you do anyway.

Yea, I'm always honest with the server - not to get free or discounted food, but I think they should know when their service/food isn't up to par. If they're producing shit food but everyone is fearful of telling them the truth because they're massive vaginas, then the food will stay shit food.

I hate being confrontational, but you should definitely be honest with your server.

The other day I was at a restaurant and I ordered a New York Strip Steak cooked medium rare. Well it arrived very Well Done. I was just going to choke it down, but my grandmother who was with me forced me to speak up haha. The server apologized and brought me a new steak that was cooked to my request.

We had a saying at work (the other place, Meowth):

Dissatisfied customers don't go out of their way to tell you their dissatisfied, they just go away.

Which was kind of a basis to then go "no reports, good or bad, is the same as bad reports", which fueled a persistence from the owners for all of us to work harder and perform better.

Which is cool and all, when there is opportunity for advancement into actual wealth. Something that place didn't have.

"Ok we aren't such things and birds are pretty advanced. They fly and shit from anywhere they want. While we sit on our automatic toilets, they're shitting on people and my car while a cool breeze tickles their anus. That's the life."

Mr. Blue: You know what these chicks make? They make shit.
Mr. Pink: Don't give me that. She don't make enough money that she can quit.
Nice Guy Eddie: I don't even know a fucking Jew who'd have the balls to say that. Let me get this straight: you don't ever tip?
Mr. Pink: I don't tip because society says I have to. All right, if someone deserves a tip, if they really put forth an effort, I'll give them something a little something extra. But this tipping automatically, it's for the birds. As far as I'm concerned, they're just doing their job.
Mr. Blue: Hey, our girl was nice.
Mr. Pink: She was okay. She wasn't anything special.
Mr. Blue: What's special? Take you in the back and suck your dick?
Nice Guy Eddie: I'd go over twelve percent for that.

Totally had this copy pasted then i scrolled down!

I always tip 20% for good service, 25% for exceptional service / the waitress' phone number, and not a single dime for anything less than good service.

I really expect friendliness and enthusiasm when I go to a restaurant. Even if you hate your job/have to be there to make a buck, you absolutely have to do a PERFECT job. No exceptions. Otherwise, find other work. Nobody is forcing you to be there.

The server might think that its going to get taken out of their tip and they might go scream at the kitchen staff. The thing is, unless if its a blatant error on the kitchen's fault (ex. overcooking something, overseasoning it, etc), they're forced into whatever shitty decisions that the kitchen manager/executive chef/whatever decided to vomit onto the menu.

Line cooks don't create the food to their own liking, they simply replicate whatever their boss tells them to. Its not their fault if the combination of flavors is absolutely horrible.

For example, I had probably the worst meal of recent memory with Danzor a couple days ago. I got a Chicken Codron Bleu (named Chicken Gordon Blue on the menu, mind you) on the menu. Its not the kitchen's fault that the ham was like eating a salt lick, nor was it their fault that both the sandwich and the chili were lukewarm when they came to the table, it was a combination of buying shitty ingredients and the laziness of said server.

Cooking is a hard job and having some server bitch at you for problems that are entirely out of your control is one of the most aggravating things that can happen. I have no idea how many times I wanted to sock a server in the jaw because they bitched about a soup being cold because I put it in the window when all the other food came up on the ticket that THEY put in, only to come and pick it up 15-20 minutes after the food was done and rotting, waiting for them to pick it up.

Ordering something like Chicken Cordon Bleu is like asking for a kick in the jaw.

The odds you will actually get a tasty and well-prepared incarnation of the dish are miniscule. 99% of breaded meat dishes suck.

They're following their training. Soups are to be served first, and further courses aren't to be brought out until after the guest has finished what is in front of them. If you want servers to bring courses out as they are ready, you are supposed to say so.

You're supposed to ring it in separate. Just the appetizers.

I've gotten some pretty bomb tips from blacks when they do decide to tip, makes up for all the stiffs.
