In LoL you can start with 900 hp and regen items/abilities at LEVEL ONE (garen for ex.).
LoL also incorporates Zileas' "developing for a retarded community" philosophies and that's why the game is bland and boring and the meta is always a nightmare no matter what it happens to be (tanky dps, poking, healing, ranged carries, nukers, 1-1-2+jungler every game).
LoL is a terrible game. However the genre is an acquired taste, DotA/HoN are very unforgiving because that's how it should be. LoL is VERY forgiving and THAT is why it's popular.
Advertising, auto pilot game play, cartoons, big titted female heroes and the biggest cliche characters you will ever see.

Here's a good way to compare the games.
LoL is the WoW of the MOBA genre. Anyone with any semblance of intelligence knows that popularity almost never = quality (see: modern music, movies, games), and quantity does not = quality (player base size).
But the biggest thing is ADDICTIVE GAME DESIGN NEVER EQUALS QUALITY.
Modern games: Progression bars, rewards, perks, grinding, farming, killstreaks.
They are all designed for ONE thing and that is to keep you addicted to what is most likely a piece of **** product.
