Here's a good way to compare the games.
LoL is the WoW of the MOBA genre. Anyone with any semblance of intelligence knows that popularity almost never = quality (see: modern music, movies, games), and quantity does not = quality (player base size).
But the biggest thing is ADDICTIVE GAME DESIGN NEVER EQUALS QUALITY.
Modern games: Progression bars, rewards, perks, grinding, farming, killstreaks.
They are all designed for ONE thing and that is to keep you addicted to what is most likely a piece of **** product.

not that i'm really disagreeing with this, but is this person/you trying to say that HoN is actually a good game? it copy pasted dota, then decides it wants to do its own game so it's 70% dota 30% of their own shit, which is a horrid combination and has dumbed the genre down as much as LoL has in a different way.
LoL doesn't punish you, making it babby mode difficulty with tons of imbalance. everyone knows this.
HoN has turned the genre into an AoE clusterfuck that nobody actually knows what's going on most of the time. everyone just mashes their buttons and then 6 people are dead, one guy is already way the fuck back, another guy is running and someone else is chasing said guy trying to finish him. also can't help but mention the fact that there is fucking bloom on everything. easily the best thing shown for dota 2 was the fact that every fucking spell effect is actually visible in teamfights, instead of looking like fireworks went off in a bucket of rainbow paint.
there's a reason some 1:1 ports in HoN ended up being thousands of times worse then their DotA counterpart (rampage comes to mind instantly), and a reason team fights in DotA last more then 10 seconds.
tldr: HoN is a bad game, LoL isn't a great game either but at least did what it set out to do, and DotA is the only game in this genre that means anything. until Dota 2.

LoL will never be taken seriously by anyone whos played the genre for a long time due to flash. seriously. it isn't elitism, it's just retarded. i've played all 3 since their early stages, even when DotA was a beta on Reign of Chaos, and despite all the broken characters/items that have come from all 3, nothing is as stupid as flash. ever.
it's a kill centered genre, and comparing the two is...pretty sad. especially when the lack of kills is due to flash and flash only, and the other game being played only has half of its character pool enabled, so some of the tournament players aren't even playing their best heroes.
