I wonder if this would ever make it onto the chopping block. Somehow, I feel like massive subsidies (welfarelol) benefiting Israelis is more acceptable to conservatives than welfare benefiting poor Americans.

A lot of politicians, predominately conservative, see Israel as America's everlasting friends that deserve our continuous support and/or want to assure that America can use Israel as a refuge and base for operations in the Middle East. There are those who want to protect Israel at all costs, because there are a lot who are scared shitless of losing to terrorism, others who are scared shitless of Islam potentially overtaking Christianity, and others who are scared shitless of losing profits begotten from war.

I hope it does get cut, for two reasons:

- Foreign aid is a subsidy. Subsidies condemn production.

- And, because if it does get cut, it would indicate that maybe we're serious about drawing down foreign entanglements as well as getting serious about our sacred cows.

I'm not a fan of "foreign 'aid'" no matter who is taking it.

That said, you're right, that's not going to change, because the social conservatives represent the evangelicals, and they think we should be doing everything possible to 'help' God's chosen people, in addition to a lot of democrats who favor that spending because of the Jewish vote.

I'm with Jubber here. However, if we're giving money to other countries then it should be taken from the 'defense' budget. Re-appropriate the money to defense just so it's clear what the money is for.

Something political we all agree on? For different reasons, mind you, but still, victory!
