Yeah fortunately it's only the basement, last I heard they were still waiting on the fire department to pump some of the water out, but the firefighters have been absolutely swamped so no clue when that's going to happen. It's going to be expensive (washer, dryer, water heater, furnace, all their clothes, and a ton of other non-essential items), but they're not hurt and as long as the water doesn't stick around too long it shouldn't be too bad.

Thats probably not the worst part though. the mold and mildew could kill them if they don't get it cleaned out properly.

Yeah that's why we're hoping the water doesn't stay too long. With the exception of a small dividing wall the basement wasn't finished, so we'll be able to pull everything out and power wash the concrete.

thats something at least. gotta figure a way to dry it out though, or shit will grow in the water you used to clean it up.

How was the water getting into the house - rising water table, through the foundation or through a window?

Edit: Earlier today we had a line of thunderstorms form along the I-95 Corridor and they've been dumping a ton of rain non-stop. The weird thing is the storms are forming near the VA/NC border and are heading straight North, so everyone in the line just keeps getting pummeled. At my in-laws place (which is just outside of DC) they recorded 5" of rain in 2 hours from their little rain gauge. Eastern VA, DC and Maryland are dealing with some pretty bad flooding right now.

The rain is relevant to the thread.

I'm not being sarcastic.
