I mean say you lose someone to cancer. Cancer is indiscriminate and has no malicious intent. If you lose someone to something normal like that, you may look at someone who lost a loved one to say a murder, and it will give you some perspective on what they went through.

so what's everyones excuse who didn't lose anything to be a butt ravaged faggot on 9/11?

If you really don't feel anything for it now, there's nothing i can do that would convince you otherwise.

I feel sorry for you though.

When Mayo tries equating the indiscriminate murder of 3000 Americans from an external force with the deaths of 151,000 people daily I can't help but laugh. The two aren't remotely close, are they? The number Mayo is using is just a death estimate which includes death from all things; war, famine, age, illness, accidents, suicide, boredom, murder, etc... not just an attack. Then he tries to make people who do have some feeling towards 9/11 as heartless fucks by saying, "Oh, but what about infighting within Africa... or what about the starving kids... don't you care about them, too?" Sorry, still not the same. He could've used the Iraq civilian casualty count and said, "It's likely this many Iraqi civilians wouldn't have died if we didn't go to war..." but then I'm afraid we're asking too much of Mayo to be realistic and draw real parallels. Of course, he'd rather exaggerate things and detach from reality.

PS: "Worse" is all about perspective.

Yeah I care about the victims of 9/11. I may not know them but they still are, for better or worse, my people.

I don't care about the people starving in africa. Sorry, I don't have that much "gives a shit" in my body.

YOU, don't care about ANY of them, so who's the bad guy?

Well, maybe he didn't point out those things explicitly, but I did think about those as well when he said it (ie, he didn't need to actually say them). In fact, I don't remember anybody saying anything about the genocides, the civilians in Iraq being mistakenly killed, etc etc. But that's what I derived from his statement. I did know someone who lost their husband in the Pentagon, and would never think to try and take a day of rememberence from those affected by the attacks (directly or indirectly). However, a lot of those people feeling "sympathy" don't feel that same "sympathy" for the other (sometimes more) devastating attacks.

Why go so far? Do we remember the attacks at King's Cross in London? I was there that day. We had taken the train directly before the one that exploded. People died, but we don't remember that day ("England's 9/11"). Why? Is it because it wasn't in our country? That's kinda selfish. I wish I knew of a word to describe feeling sympathy for the victims on our soil but turning a blind eye to the suffering of those on foreign soil.

He didn't say anything about not caring, he said he isn't impressed by your brouhaha about it. I think you're the only one who admitted to not caring, but at least you're honest I suppose.

Are you sure you should be feeling sorry for someone else on this board?

You could call it ethnocentric sympathizing, I suppose.

Remember that old question they'd ask you in high school at some bullshit human relations meetings, "would you rather save your mothers life and let a million africans you'll never meet die, or save the million africans and lose your mothers?"

Sorry Africans.

At least I'm being consistent. We're both just as detached from 9/11 and starving children in Africa, I'm not too busy dryhumping the american flag to admit it.

My own countrymen mean more to me than random people from various other countries an ocean away.

I feel that's understandable.
