we all think the military is too bloated, mayo, just like most other government spending. there are leaks and stupid shit we shouldn't be spending. I don't see how you can't get behind that.

and tard, that line was what i'm getting out of what mayo is saying.

Yeah, let's cut wasteful spending.

Wait, what do you define as "wasteful spending"?

Here's a gotcha question for you:

You sure got me there.

When you can't beat them with substance, resort to semantics and nitpicking.

Am I going to change your mind magically on a world of warcraft unofficial realm forum?

My old man is the facilities director for some buildings on a base. Comcast and Verizon (I forget which) charge the government $90 per 'drop' inside the building. That means if they need a new porn outlet for a computer in the corner these companies would charge $90 just to cut a hole and fish a low-voltage cable through 10' of wall... could be more now, I don't know for sure. Cost of materials is a small fraction of that but the companies inflate the price of wiring and labor. Actually, I think they charge the government much more than a residential home owner just because they know the government can 'afford it'...

(Oh, and the government told my dad he can't take care of things like that himself even though he knows how... hell, most people on this forum know how to run low-voltage wires! Instead, my old man has to go through the base maintenance and then they have to put in orders to send people out to the job site to assess the situation, then they need to send some guys out to do the work. Bureaucratic bloat at it's best.)

It's interesting how you call it "the army/soldiers/men in uniform" when it's good and "the government/bureaucrats" when it's bad.

Quote:
No. If I were on contract with the government I'd be billed around $110/hr last I looked at some of our schedules. I would see probably ~$30-40 of that money. If I were working for a company that didn't have contracts to the government I would make much less. I don't know many programmers that are worth $110/hr (and I'm simply talking about code-monkeys... not engineers or senior programmers)... It's not about getting more revenue, it's about being smart with what you have and making it go as far as possible.

It's not "waste" due to oversight or incompetence. It's black budgeting by self-righteous military douchebags like you who use the pretext of "national defense" as a rationalization for their craving for military welfare, whether it's national guard money or contractor salaries.

If you ask these people what the justification is for taking piles of taxpayer cash and putting it in their own pockets, they'll give the same bullshit excuse you do, "IM SERVIN MAH COUNTRY PROTECTIN OUR FREEDUM".

Playing Radio Shack Deluxe or weekend paintball with live ammo, same difference.

This is probably the most intelligent post you've made in this 12 page thread. /tiphat

This actually is a good question, how would the government define "wasteful spending."

If I had to guess, they'd create a new Department of Efficient Management of Taxes to perform audits.

Jokes aside, it's a good question.

So you're basically saying you don't even know what you're arguing about, but whatever it is, you hate it and it needs to go?

Spoiler (highlight to view):
The reason I asked that question is because the term "wasteful spending" is so entirely broad and subjective that we'll never come to agreement about it. Congratulations, asshole, we're back to square one.

Wasteful spending is spending that isn't productive.

The public interest is no different than business. Businesses spend money to make more money. The government spends money to build a better life for the American people than the value of that money in the here and now. Whether it's education, defense, social services, healthcare, regulation, it's all the same, the idea is that it in some way makes our lives, collectively, more livable.

I'd be down for getting rid of free health care for inmates convicted of violent crimes.

cut military pensions for people who aren't veterans, for another.

definitely cut the salaries for representatives and senators.

I read something about the USPS going bankrupt, sure to be some cuts/policy changes there we can find.

The USPS doesn't need to turn a profit any more than the military does. A postal service is part of civilized society. It's an obligation of government. 35 cents or whatever it is these days to mail a letter cross-country? People will bitch about anything.

The USPS has always been a bugbear to right-wingers who resent that government can potentially do anything right.

THis has already been discussed in the thread. Wasteful spending is anything that jubber/eturnal/insert name of retard here don't benefit from. Eturnal works for a fucking defense contractor you think he actually has a problem with a hugely inflated military budget. Of course not. Who would pay him to browse Fubu and foxnews.com for 8 hours a day?

People like this are the true low lifes of society. Their get mine fuck you attitude can be found in all their opinions whether it be taxes or foreign policy. As long as THEY get what they want they are happy. It's not entirely surprising but sad that human beings without a hint of altruism exist in this world.

I'm saying that the issue deserves attention. Nobody on this board is qualified to address the issue, and I don't think the character limit would allow for the amount of text required to draft even a basic outline, and in closing I seriously doubt that anyone that frequents these boards, even if they were qualified to make such an assessment, would have the means to singlehandedly undertake such a huge project.

Does that mean we can't discuss it and have opinions on it? In that case, let's never criticize Blizzard's latest patch note retardation because it's pointless anyway.

Policy changes impacting excessive military spending as well as inefficient domestic programs can't coexist?

I can't imagine a bill passing that would cut both military and domestic program spending. And if such a deal did pass it would be extremely watered down and accomplish virtually nothing.
