I mean, who (regardless of all policy) better to face off the first black president than potentially the first woman president?

Man I wish there was a candidate worth voting for. I wished that a few years ago too.

It's for this reason that I did not vote 4 years ago. I knew both candidates were shit and no matter what they did American would continue along it's path. The only reason I'd vote this year is if the repub candidate is a complete looney (Bachmann, Perry etc.) Then I'd have to vote just so I could say I didn't help put crazy into office. Hopefully it's Romney who I can just ignore as a silly mormon that won't do much of anything and thus wouldn't have to leave my house that day. I'm allergic to sunlight after 22+ years in my parent's basement.

I don't know who is more annoying / retarded. Black people that vote for Obama simply because he is black and they want to end racism by electing a black man solely because he is black...or women who want a female President so they can end sexism by electing a female to office, solely because she is a female.

I know some people that are black / female have legitimate reasons for their choosing of their candidate, most even, I would say...but the fringe people I just facepalm at the massive amount of stupid their heads contain.

I think this was pretty significantly blown out of proportion. Not that it didn't happen, but black people voting for a democrat isn't exactly breaking news. Look at Palin, while her supporters tried to trump up the female angle, there were a lot of woman who would never vote for her. Obama represented a very good image for african-americans, the group generally votes democrat to begin with, and his campaign was solid (solid is a significant understatement). A female candidate is going to have a tougher time bridging the vast ideological gap between left and right. Less women are going to vote for a woman just because she's a woman, if anything she'll be more polarizing as women won't want some fuck-up as the first female president.

I don't think anyone thought racism would end when a black president was elected, I think it was more of a fuck you to the country from a group that used to be property and 50 years ago couldn't sit at a lunch counter. Given the absolute wreck the republicans left the country in, voting in such a way was foolish, but I can't say I don't understand them.

if you want to see the effects of race vs electing black people, the republicans would have to have a presidential candidate vs a white democrat.

All three of you make valid points. I was just pointing out the irony of *only those* who strictly voted for Obama because he shared the same race as them, to 'end racism', and *only those* who strictly support a female candidate out of 'feminism.'

I know the voters in question are a minority out of many legitimate voters who vote based on merit, but it is somewhat amusing (or at least it would be if it weren't such a mildly terrifying reality that these people can and do vote) that they give opponents of racial and gender equality material to work with while at the same time attempting to pursue these same goals.


I think everyone in America needs to adopt a chill-the-fuck-out mentality, tbqh.
