If I am actively involved in orchestrating and implementing attacks that could kill soldiers or civilians, that's entirely different.
I think that's the precedent that people are fearing of setting. If we give the government the ability to target its own people for that premise (American, but planning to kill other Americans) then we're giving them the green light to just do what they want, right?
I'm not concerned about a drone strike on some durkadurk overseas operating as an enemy combatant for a well known internationally recognized terrorist organization.
I'd be VERY concerned with CIA sniper teams running bullseyeing citizens that are members of crime syndicates that could be captured much easier and given a trial. Look at John Walker Lindh, trip down memory lane. He was an American citizen operating within the Taliban against US soldiers. He happened to be captured, but if the outcome was he was killed by gunfire in a skirmish with our troops, would people still be raising hell advocating for his rights?
Moral of the story is don't join a terrorist organization with the intent of harming your fellow citizens (including the ACLU morons) and you won't get pewpew'd.
