Patriot Act.

Isn't the Violence Against Patriots Act. No one is saying laws/bills aren't inappropriately named, but when it's obvious that they are, you should be able to discern it.

That is exactly the argument Aestu is making.

That's because you are still willfully ignorant and once again accepting ideas with only the shallowest of understanding.

Now, we can keep going over this name problem of yours again and again, or you can do a little research and stop acting like a moron.

how about instead of namecalling, you show me how its not a biased act?

http://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/2011/July/11-asg-955.html

http://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/2011/June/11-ovw-715.html

because those sound incredibly biased.

Did you not read those, or did you not understand them? Or maybe you just don't know what the word biased means, that's possible as well. Or is it "laws apply regardless of the sex of the offender/victim" that you have a problem with? Really you just seem to see the word women and go into a shitfit about how unfair it is without understanding what these laws actually do.

Because you apparently can't read your own links, I'll spell it out for you.

Quote:
Department of Justice Proposes Legislation to Help Tribes Combat Violence Against Native Women in Indian Country

Here is the problem they are seeking to redress:

Quote:
Violence against American Indian women occurs at epidemic rates. Research reveals that one-third of Native women will be raped during their lifetimes, and nearly 3 out of 5 have been assaulted by their spouses or intimate partners

This one isn't real important to your anti-woman crusade, just re-affirms the right of tribal courts:

Quote:
Clarifying that tribal courts have full civil jurisdiction to issue and enforce protection orders involving any persons, Indian or non-Indian — confirming the intent of Congress in enacting the Violence Against Women Act of 2000.

Now, here is where actual laws change:

Quote:
Providing more robust federal sentences for certain acts of domestic violence in Indian Country: a 10-year offense for assaulting a spouse, intimate partner or dating partner by strangling, suffocating or attempting to strangle or suffocate; a five-year offense for assaulting a spouse, intimate partner or dating partner, resulting in substantial bodily injury; and a one-year offense for assaulting a person by striking, beating or wounding.

You notice how none of those said 'assaulting a woman/wife/girlfriend'? It doesn't matter what the intent of the law is, it matters if the law unfairly discriminates based on sex/race/religion/etc.

Your second article isn't even related to vawa, not to mention IT'S A MEETING, NOT A LAW. On top of that, it's a meeting focusing on children and youth. Read your fucking links.

Once again, you're claiming bias in the laws based on a name and not what a law actually does.

You go back and forth between Aestu the Thread Destroyer and Aestu the Irrelevant (well, both post nothing but irrelevant drivel, but the second posts a lot less of it).

The timing and silence between these swings seem to indicate they match up with your bouts of depression. So which is it, does the Thread Destroyer post for the attention in an attempt to alleviate the depression, or does the Irrelevant post because he thinks he has to, but doesn't care enough to post pages worth?

It has nothing to do with my state of mind.

There are some viewpoints, like Weena's take on libertarianism, that are the product of ignorance or misguided idealism. Then there are other viewpoints that are warped onto delusion.

In this thread, many different people who have little in common in their viewpoints, beliefs, lifestyle or personal experiences all agree on facts that are so immediately apparent, unmitigated by time or distance, that there's really no question as to what the reality is. We may differ in degrees small or great about how we think the facts ought to be actioned, or what exactly is the nature, extent and origin of the underlying problems, but there's really no argument that the facts, in general terms, are what they are.

Hence why I termed this a "blue sky" argument. There are some people who, for their own reasons, will deny facts no matter how eminently apparent those facts are. Like the color of the sky on a clear day.

Something makes them subscribe with religious fervor to an ideological unreality. For some, it's biblical literalism, and for others, their holy book is secular social bureaucratese.

No matter how many cadavers you dissect they will claim that men have one fewer rib than women, and no matter how many facts you cite they will claim that the benefit and intent of laws are equal when the reality is something else.

I'm a father of twin 3 year old boys. I work overnight shift in a warehouse. They require us to work extra late, regardless of parental obligations. I watch my children usually from 3 pm - 6 pm so my girlfriend can work PT to help us make ends meet.

Do you think any employer, or at least my employer, would require 11+ hour shifts for a mother when she had to be able to get adequate rest to provide childcare?

Off Topic Rant from a low level worker who wants to be paid more to do nothing at all.

Not only that, but we work extra late and then are required to cut overtime out later in the week. We have 4 guys to unload and work a 60 foot deep truck and stock the freight in 8 hours. Sounds reasonable enough, right? For comparison, we had double the staff for marginally increased freight levels one year ago.

Absolutely. I don't think employers give half a shit if they aren't compelled (with very strong, governmentally-backed language) to do the right thing. Have children? Too bad, we're gonna work you the hours we feel like working you and if you don't like it we'll hire someone else.

What about internal policies?
