I think part of it is that developers simply can't spend that much to do that. People want their games and they want them out yesterday so saying "hey we're gonna spend an extra 6 months making this real good" sounds good but doesn't work in practice. Look at Gran Turismo 5, they spent 6 years and over 100mil$ on it to make it look extra pretty but the number one complaint I've heard is lack of content past the first half of the game.

I don't buy that.

Was it because they were incapable of doing better that GM cars sucked? No, it was institutional laziness, stupidity and cowardice. What was the budget for games 5, 10, 20 years ago that are STILL generating more license revenue than last years' flash in the pan?

The basic problem is that the corporatization of games has put the bean counters and not creative artists in charge. Professional executives fear creativity because they can't control or quantify it.

Its no different than Soviet art. Centrally planned, by the numbers, for mass production. There's only one variable they can manipulate - how much? So you get disgusting, unsightly, unimaginative gigantism.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Eventually, the Indians will take the market by storm when they reinvent the wheel.

Eye candy sells, depth doesn't nearly as much.

It's why summer blockbusters make more money than other flicks.

(for the record, I love games with depth but don't really care for supposedly "intelligent" films because I think they're tedious, pretentious, and stupid)

And that's why Fallout New Vegas has both gratuitous gore AND clever dialogue.

i wanted to but isn't it singleplayer? because dungeon defenders comes out in like a week, and it's the same thing but bro op.

it also apparently crashes a ton judging by how many times i see you launch it in a 2 minute time span

also this, and the fact that everything is a god damned sequel that adds nothing as far as gameplay. call me ironic, being a nintendo fan, but there's been more Assassin's Creed games since it launched in 07 then there have been main series Zelda games in the past decade. and every last one of them is garbage, save for the scenery.

Its a single player, yeah, but I think there's some rumors of it becoming multiplayer, idk. Also, for the first day I had it I had some problems with steam so it didn't open. Now I usually just do a level or two and then go do something else for a bit and come back to it.
