So, Aestu joined some guild for some reason (pursuit of a legendary?) and decided they were fail and left.
I was asked by a friend to join this new guild on Gul'dan Horde.
He said the leadership was a from a top 20 US guild and they were on P3 H Rag.
I xfer there and check it out. Gul'dan is a nearly dead server. The only officer and GM seldom log on and there is nothing to do outside raids.
Upon arriving, the officer asks for a discount on the 600-odd flasks I brought with me to sell at a profit. A 15% discount isn't enough, he wants 40%. I say no dice. He then buys them off the AH at full price (200g/ea on Gul'dan). Bear in mind that with Guild Challenges and Profit Sharing, it is insanely easy for guilds to make vast quantities of gold.
That night, they kill Rag on normal. At this time I was saved to a normal instance with only Rag up so ofc I ask for an invite; they had said during the interview none of their tanks needed gear and that they would help gear up (the shoulders off Rag are a direct upgrade over my T11 shoulders, but for most tanks they are obsolete as heroic T12 shoulders are better). The officer asks laconically in vent if "anyone is willing to sit out" then pulls the boss.
Friend wants to run H BWD for fun, gear and achieves. Officers don't want to pitch in. An hour later the GM is begging for help with his legendary staff quest. No one is interested. He first invites me to the group, then asks me for help with the raid quest. Gee. I decline.
Later they are working on Sinestra-10. Two dozen wipes before they down it the second night of attempts. Then they wipe for a few hours to heroic Alakir-10 before giving up. Remember, they're supposed to be working on heroic Rag. When they finally kill Sinestra, scoring the Gul'dan realm first, ofc they spam trade channel about how awesome they are for downing the heavily nerfed encounter after two dozen tries in full heroic Firelands gear.
At this point I decide to get the story from the horse's mouth. I ask the GM of their former guild, Rebellion-Bro'gall, what the deal was. He says, simply, that he refused to make this kid an officer, "he wants to be important etc", so the kid asked other raiders to leave and join a new guild, at which point he got gkicked. The other guy just wanted a legendary staff. "It really is just that simple... My fresh 85 alt could get in. They'll promise people anything. We have fun laughing at their apps".
Tuesday raid rolls around. They clear trash before raid times begin and roll off all the BoE drops. When I log in for raid, there's 38 people in raid, and they rotate in and out for each boss. They decide to sit me for Shannox, "because you haven't done it and we want a speed kill". Huh? (Shannox is the easiest HM, is not substantially different for a tank on heroic than normal, has no time element, and is probably the best encounter in the instance to gauge tank skill).
They had asked me to come over with the understanding that their previous paladin tank, who was supposedly quite good, went AWOL, and I was being recruited for a main tank raid spot. So I say in raid chat, "I xferred with the understanding I was being recruited for a raid spot, not to run circles in Shat". "Sorry not looking for people bitching about getting sat". /gkick.
So, having wasted $100 after swearing to myself not to give Blizzard a pence more, I headed back.
The expedition wasn't entirely a loss. I made a lot of gold through selling the flasks, and I won the STV fishing tournament, because that's really hard on a dead realm.
That's the story.
