What does it say that most of the 10 poorest states are Republican?

It's an interesting question. I know a few of the right-leaning posters we have on this forum aren't exactly Donald Trump.

One would ask this question considering many Republican policies (lower taxes) would benefit the rich significantly more. Other Republican policies (fewer social programs! Fuck welfare!) would certainly seem to be unhelpful to a poor person.

Is it simply a product of the less educated being republican? In fact most of the states with the lowest percentage of college degree holders are "republican" states:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/09/2 ... 33348.html

West Virginia
Arkansas
Louisiana
Kentucky
Mississippi
Nevada
Oklahoma
Tennessee
Alabama
Texas
Indiana
New Mexico
Arizona
South Carolina
Idaho

Less education = less earning power.

Is it an issue of religion? We all know that the religious right is a significant part of the republican base. Some of the most religious people aren't exactly pursuing law degrees at Harvard, which would suggest their earning power is much less. In fact, poor people are more religious overall than rich people:

http://www.communityjournal.net/?p=6329

Is it an issue of social issues? Hey if you are against abortion, and for abstinence education in schools...should you be surprised at the large % of teen pregnancy or single un-wed mothers (which clearly damages earning potential)?

http://womensissues.about.com/od/dating ... States.htm

States ranked by rates of pregnancy among women age 15-19 (pregnancies per thousand):

Nevada (113)
Arizona (104)
Mississippi (103)
New Mexico (103)
Texas (101)[/b]
Florida (97)
California (96)
Georgia (95)
North Carolina (95)
Arkansas (93)

These are the facts gentlemen - I'm just trying to understand what they all mean.....doesn't the republican base see their inherent contradictions in philosophies?

Here's a map of the 2008 election results for reference. Also note that Obama BARELY won North Carolina and probably won't get it this time around.

I'm not sure 15-19the year olds qualify as competent enough to belong to any political party, particularly because they're female.

lol - yeah but they will grow up and start voting, and also be more likely to be poor given the time in which they became mothers and how that affects things like

1. getting a college education
2. getting a well-paying 9-5 job

and so on.

I wonder how different that map would be if everyone who could vote actually did.

College education is a measure of social class, not knowledge or intelligence.

Teen pregnancies have nothing to do with the party of the teen, they have to do with teaching kids safe sex instead of leaving them unprepared because jesus would be super pissed if these kids didn't ruin their lives.

Honestly most of these kids are just plain stupid. Christian superstitions have very little to do with it. Stupidity is the main factor.

These are the people who think you spread vaginal gel on toast then eat it. And yes, I've actually heard that one.

Republicans don't see their contradictions because they are too dim to notice.

I think it's more like..

Some Republicans inherently disagree with the notion of anyone paying taxes disproportionately..even if you still bring home millions or billions.

Some Republicans think lowering taxes will benefit those in poverty because they'll get to keep more money on their paychecks.

Myself, I don't belong to a political party. I believe in efficiently managing the money we already tax, streamlining domestic programs to cut out unneeded bullshit (few examples being the amount of money wasted on unnecessary printing of paper, inefficient lighting, upkeep of long inactive properties, payroll to those who maintain the inactive properties, etc) and eliminating excessive military spending. Who defines what excessive is? I don't fucking know. Somehow I think we could manage the money more tightly and still maintain our military as one of the top fighting forces in the world, if not the top, easily. When we outspend the next 5 highest military spenders combined, that tells me... ur doin it wrong.

My brother put an Obama bumper sticker on his motorized scooter when he was 13. How does that make you feel?
