our generation grew up on nintendo. commodore and atari are the great grandfathers if anything. sure they're good, but c'mon. nintendo was the champ for what, 20 years?

In hindsight it seems that way, but lets not forget that Sega was right there neck and neck. It's unfortunate Sega isn't producing hardware anymore, their systems were really ahead of their time.

sega did have some decent games yeah. I forget about it because sega is good at making games, not consoles. nintendo is decent at both.

then again they just rehash mario and zelda day in and day out, so they're ahead of the curve on madden/COD clones too.

I edited my part while you were replying, but I disagree about their consoles. Sega pioneered most of the hardware innovations, their systems were always a step above what nintendo was doing. That's not even including the Sega Channel, which was fucking awesome.

Sega was always a step behind, dominance-wise.

Sega systems were only marginally more powerful than Nintendo systems. In terms of "ahead of their time", that crown belongs to Atari's Lynx and Jaguar consoles, and, to a far greater extent, the Panasonic 3DO.

The modern PS3/Xbox have far more in common with the 3DO than with the SNES/N64.

But then again what does tech matter? It's all about fun factor, 100-0.

speaking of the tech, it's really sad that the only game to make full use of what the wii was meant to be is coming out at the end of its days :\

at least skyward sword will be worth remembering. too bad nobody else did anything with it.

I have an Iphone and a Macbook air. I'm not sure that makes me an Apple fanboy, as I work in the field and tend to own a lot of technology. I like both products; they're polished. The Macbook air is overpriced and if it were my only laptop would not be the one I would have choosen. The Iphone4 is the best phone I've ever owned. I thought I'd hate it. The only thing I liked better in the Droid was the GPS.

I don't play my wii, but still think it's pretty cool and probably will download the new Zelda. I think the wii's online gameplay stinks, but then again, hacking it was easy and since updating the firmware is of no concern- it can stay hacked. It works good for entertaining kids.

I think I played my NES more than any other system I owned. I had a Sega CD too. I had it hooked to my stereo and thought I was the shit, rocking Sonic.

I had (well, have) a 3DO. Thing was centuries ahead.

I grew up on Commodore and Amiga. My differences with the 80s- and early 90s-era console generation aside, I agree with all of you that this list is dildos. Macs have never been anything but disastrous for real games, and everyone knows it.
