This was definitely a PR exercise, but I think I'll overlook that in the spirit of the season for a good cause.
Hopefully I was completely wrong about everything I think is going to happen as a result of the DADT change, and everything will be as happy and rosy as this picture makes it look to be.
I think that this is the best argument against same-sex marriage in the military.
People inclined towards sensationalism will be nothing but trouble. I think that to be an effective member of an organization, especially the military, you need to have a certain austerity of character these people don't have.

Or maybe they are possessed of that discretion, but for the sake of the organization (and the issue, which they likely care about) are putting on this "show" for a photo op that paints the organization in an appealing light. This is probably why the military half of the couple in question is a commissioned officer and not an enlisted person, as well. Better optics. The only thing I find odd is that there aren't a bunch of people lined up up the rails either checking this out or waiting to debark.
Maybe. That may not be the part of the boat with entrances or exits or whatever. There's as much to be happy for as there is to be suspicious of in this pic. I'm letting it slide for the sake of hope.

So a gay couple did the same thing a straight couple has done every single time this shit has come to it's home port and because the media reported on it you guys have decided it damns gays in the military. I'd rather not insult you with this sentence, but I feel I have to because otherwise you won't see how stupid the first sentence makes you.

They're both in the navy (and both Petty Officers), the girl out of uniform wasn't on-duty when her partner got off the boat. Video shows more people around them, so you won't think it's a setup.

I think the comments were more about the overall changes and results rather than just this symbol
I was trying to figure out what the fuck was the point of the picture. In that, "are they just kissing near a navy ship in uniform to say 'suck on that!'", and a picture is being taken to say "suck on that" to everybody else?
Then I saw the word 'homecoming' and all made sense.
"Ok we aren't such things and birds are pretty advanced. They fly and shit from anywhere they want. While we sit on our automatic toilets, they're shitting on people and my car while a cool breeze tickles their anus. That's the life."

You are a fool if you think I of all people disapprove of people being gay for its own sake. There is a difference between that and making a big deal about it.

The stupid hat threw me off. I should have noticed she wasn't wearing shoulder epaulets. Still, good for them...but it's still an obvious PR bit (though one that has my approval).
