I'm not sure who is worse anymore.

No, I am sure, it's Azelma. You know what Aestu is like, you know what is going to happen, and yet you get into this stupid shit with him over and over again. I don't feel bad for you anymore.

What can I say, I'm a masochist.

Anyway on the shit slinging scale this convo has been rather cordial, I think. Aestu and I have been arguing over several issues and I feel just fine (insert Aestu comment: "ignorance is bliss")

By your logic, no one on these forums should ever respond to Aestu's posts. We ALL know what he's like, but many still respond to him. I'm just the worst offender by a long shot.

I've said my piece so I shall bow out of this thread. Aestu is plain wrong about business/capitalism. But if the world changes because of him, or someone with similar views, I will tip my cap and say "well, looks like you were right afterall" I will then promptly commit Seppuku.

No. You engage me in debate because you want to pretend you have knowledge and legitimate views.

Resorting to "I should never have engaged him," or "you don't know" (despite the fact that I frequently point to actual, specific facts pulled from my general knowledge, rather than talking in vague generalizations or selective Googling of editorials, suggesting that I do in fact know quite a bit), is just sour grapes.

It's no different than the short kid who challenges a taller kid to a footrace then cries cheater.

Nah. A lot of people get blindsided by change. You'll construct some sort of rationalization and move on with your little life.

Moving out of the morass of petty questions about individual policies, there is a deeper conviction that drives my views.

You know, playing Fallout: New Vegas, there was one line that really stuck with me as being very insightful.

Quote:
Any society that derives its power and authority from the will of man alone, lives apart from God, and will crumble in the end.

I don't believe in God, but I do firmly agree. People today believe that greed and self-interest are a sufficiently strong foundation for a stable, prosperous and morally correct society.
No - a society needs a higher moral order in order to be to be successful in the long run.

I believe that the contemporary viewpoint that self-interest can do it all is beyond ignorance - it is original folly. And it will be our undoing.
