Blizzard has their pet sites post bland screenshots with a Twitter that's supposed to be enigmatic or something. Am I supposed to be excited? Overcome with suspense? About a recycled model, not even an original recolor, in a seven-year-old game in terminal decline?

The new mount either costs money or it doesn't.

Either way, I don't give a shit. I can't even find anyone to accept my gold for the latest store mount, and I'm not even using all my farming lockouts each week. I'm not even replacing my auctions as they sell, just slowly liquidating my inventory through attrition.

The game itself is honestly still decent, it looks a lot better having seen other MMOs control and graphics in the interim, but the community is just such total shit these days I cbf with it.

It's retarded that I'm expected to spend more money, for less content, to prop up a game that is in decline, when we picked it up with the understanding that it would be wholly sub-based.

What's even more retarded...is that these Activision guys have taken an immensely lucrative franchise and run it into the ground down to nothing in the space of under two years. Maybe you'd think, well, they're just in it for the money. But even that doesn't hold. Profits have remained about the same while revenues have fallen dramatically.

So Kotick and co haven't even particularly enriched themselves, all they've done is broken the franchise. This isn't even about greed; it's about arrogant and stupid execs who think that they're awesome because they managed to leave some sort of mark on something, and never stop to question why they have to buy new IPs every two years, from outside developers, and yet don't produce better returns on said capital than anyone else in the business.

Perhaps these new mounts are the ghost of a chance that Blizzard doesn't have.

Yeah, I have nothing.

I'm replaying the Warcraft 3 campaigns to remind me how good Warcraft used to be. Good times, great memories.

The funny thing about this is that leveling, for me anyway, is the most fun thing WoW still has to offer. Some group stuff is good, i'm sure raids are still pretty fun when you're with people you like and not having to put up with the retardedness of this 'community'. But leveling is something they for the most part got right. Then they shit all over it with RAF. Then shit over it some more with heirlooms. Now they're shitting on it big time by letting people skip moost of it.

I mad.

This is actually amazing as fuck for some people. I'll get my 7 days worth at least. And I wonder if you can use it multiple times for your secondary accounts under battle.net.

Also, when I was looking at it earlier it said I had a PTR account for Mists of Pandaria. What does that even mean?

Haha what a fucking joke.

I love all the fanboys with Blizzard in their mouths "WHAT A GUD IDEA GUYZ I GET A FREE 80"

Imagine all the people who are going to be gifted an 80 with no idea how to play the class or spec it. Isn't part of the leveling process supposed to be for learning the class and having new abilities introduced in a manner that you learn things in an orderly fashion and build upon the skills you've already mastered...expand your rotation, etc?

Doesn't this just shoot that all in the face?

Blizzard is desperate.

P.S. I love this comment:

Quote:
Spend large chunk of resources revamping 1-60 content. Get character boosted to level 80

Love Blizz's logic.

You seem to fail to realize that this is for players who have already quit and the majority are already going to know how to play at least a little bit.

No, no, i realize that. But still, I think some people will use it on toons they never really played too much...or stopped at 30 or something.

Hmm.

If this works on same Bnet accts, this could be a very nice way to get a free 85. I could buy a one-month gamecard and xfer a lv10 druid over. I think I have one on one of my accounts.

Uh, no. No it's not.

You're presuming there's some sort of constructive intent here. There isn't.

This is for Blizzard, to pump up sub numbers, and pray that they get some residual subs back, because Lord knows the product won't sell itself and the only markets not totally turned off are, uh, Poland, Italy and Turkey. The only people interested in how this pans out are the bean counters who are watching the sub number dials, and whether their half-baked ideas bring you or anyone else any benefit is purely incidental.

jenzo and I made fresh alts on another realm from time to time.

It's pretty fun leveling in a duo (or was during wrath anyway*)

Then we'd hit cap and it would be like... hmm back to bleeding butthole?

•A single character immediately boosted all the way to level 80 -- DING!
•A FREE upgrade to Cataclysm -- regardless of your friend’s original box level
•An optional FREE character move -- to your realm and faction so you can play together
•7 FREE days of game time -- available immediately

The fact that it upgrades straight to Cata seems to be for players all the way back to vanilla. Blizz is really reaching for Subs. I also imagine you can use the 80 on a level 1, so your friend could still level his original char and just have afree 80 waiting for him.

It's all a lot of really neat free shit and it will work to some extent. lol if this is repeatable.
"Oh, you spent 30 hours leveling your char? I only spent 30 seconds. Loser."

grats on lots of free 80s I guess.

Quote:
After accepting the Scroll, the recipient can choose one character to boost to level 80. The character’s spec will be chosen by the recipient prior to completing the level boost and the character will also be given appropriate talents under the chosen spec. The character will be placed in his or her faction’s capital city and will be ready to adventure immediately. This means that the character will be granted all class skills and spells up to level 80, a flying mount and riding skill, and a green quality set of level- and spec-appropriate gear for leveling.

Any gear that was on the character prior to the level boost will be mailed back to the character via in game mail.

Hunter pets will not be given a spec, so level boosted Hunters will need to spec out their pets normally after logging in for the first time.

Note: Active quests may be abandoned when a level boost is performed. If a quest is abandoned in this way, you will be able to pick it up normally from the NPC who originally gave you the quest.

Nice spec, bro.

Also can apparently only get resurrected once.

On the one hand, it never particularly bothered me that Blizzard added all this extra paid shit, because I never bought any of it myself and I don't really mind when companies benefit off luxury products made for stupid people.

On the other hand, the bit of resentment I do have is towards the development time spent making that shit I'll never buy, because it could have gone towards making a patch better/faster or something.

That said, I like WoW. At the end of the day, it remains the only MMO ever made that doesn't handle like a fucking swamp.
