Since you were assigned to a sub (presumably because you already had high clearance) and can't talk about it, I'm guessing you were in some sort of covert operations unit, which also explains your general philosophy.

You didn't answer my big question tho. How would you recommend I pursue tech training?

Nihilism is a copout.

Having some basic knowledge or training helps, but my roommate loaned me a study guide for Security+. I also have a guide for RHEL 6. Since I'm playing with the stuff every day now, between the guides and what I can reference off the web, I've gotten a lot better. I'll probably get better with the RHEL 6 once I get my employee server. I have a virtual machine running on one of the servers here at the house, but I haven't had much time to try anything on it.

So...
Get some study guides, reference what you don't know/understand from the internet, and set a server up on old machine so you can apply your knowledge.
