It's supposed to debut in a few weeks, but the first two episodes have been leaked or "unlocked" or whatever they're calling it. For those of you who enjoyed the Legend of Aang as much as I did, you probably already know about them and have seen them already. If not, I highly recommend watching them.
Here are my thoughts. Some spoilers may follow. Officially warned.
The new beginning is pretty emotional. It's narrated by Tenzin, Aang & Katara's son, and seeing Avatar Aang's statue in Republic City and realizing he is actually gone was pretty powerful. Avatar Korra is definitely hot-headed, impatient, and forceful. It's because of these personality traits that she has trouble learning airbending, which depends on calmness, patience, and fluidity. Now we know it's not merely the opposite element, but opposite personalities of bending that determine which of the bending arts the Avatar will have the most trouble with.
There's a bunch of references to the first series in these episodes. It's kind of nice, but kind of saddening. Katara is still alive, and when she said "my brother and most of our friends are gone" I almost wanted to cry. I hope there are a bunch of flashbacks of the old crew. I know lots of people want fresh faces in a sequel series, but I want some closure for the original cast. I mean, without them, there wouldn't be a sequel in the first place!
I could talk about this all night, so I'll add some more thoughts as I come by them. I's also love to hear what you guys think. I know there's tons of fans out there. Keep me posted! I'll be ovr here, rewatching the original series.
