If you want to argue that WoW PvP is a better form of validation because it is based on "direct competition", then you must agree that it is worthless as such, because BGs are the least direct form of competition in existence as you have zero control over 95% of the variables in play (the gameplay and positioning of the other 13 players on your team and the 15 players on the opposing team) not to mention being fundamentally less balanced, skill-dependent and competitive than almost any other form of head-to-head action out there, from SSB to DotA to SC2 to EvE to CoD.
Spoken as someone who's never played those games. Pro Smash players (lol) still play Melee, because it's a far superior skill check.
DotA? Sure, that one can stay, though the main reason it has even stayed alive is because of the popularity and accessibility of League of Legends, which is fun and clever and DotA-ish but MOBAs in general don't have particularly high skillcaps because you've got at best four abilities and most of it rides on how well your draft counters their draft.
SC2 is valid, no question.
EvE? Laughable beyond belief. There is nothing even remotely close to "skill" associated with EvE. Nothing. Have you played it? I have. Your reaction time is meaningless. Your situational awareness is meaningless. Your ability to prioritize targets is the only thing that matters, and unless you're the squadron leader, you're one of 15 other people just assisting and shooting whatever target you're told. EvE is absolutely fantastic in all respects except gameplay, because it has none. It's one of the best ideas ever, but it's
not a game. EvE is competitive the same way investment banking is competitive, not in the way a sport is competitive.
That you even added CoD makes it obvious you've never played an FPS in your life. If you'd said Quake or Unreal or even Tribes, you'd have had a point. I can state, quite factually, that CoD has a lower skillcap than even playing a Death Knight did in season 5. Even in a completely random WoW BG, you're likely to have generally better players (because they're on PCs, for starters) than you'd find in a random CoD match.
