Due to something called "female hypergamy," which is apparently the tendency of women to date someone of higher social status, the DC Metro area is chock full of attractive, professional, black women who can't find suitable companionship. I am still not entirely sure why I have not begun to take advantage of that situation yet.

Well, I'm not going to be chasing doctors or lawyers (or turning them away, either). I'm not really sure what "professional" means, either, to be honest, though I tend to think it probably involves anyone who isn't working fast-food, retail, or some other unskilled kind of job. This office building I'm in is full of single hotties...I just never have time to talk to most of them. I'm also here mostly at night, so there's that.

I kind of have a thing going with a radiologist in Winchester right now, but I think she just got out of a bad relationship and isn't sure just yet that she wants to jump up-and-down on my meat hammer. So that's kind of the range I'm in, I guess, someone with some college and/or professional training that isn't looking for someone with a ridiculous amount of money and/or prestige. Then again, according to a lot of other things I've been reading...most women are unrealistic about the kind of men they can get, and are holding out for someone out-of-their-league. I read one article a few days ago that said a poll of women using OKCupid thought that 80% of the men on the site were "less than average." I think that speaks volumes.

I tend to be exactly the opposite - I like purebred black girls. I find that hybrids tend to have issues with skin/proportions and don't have the texture that purebreds do.

Same with white girls, actually - I like very pale white girls, I don't like carrot or beige colored girls. In the case of white girls, the main appeal of purebreds is the remarkable scent they have, especially fresh from a hot shower.



Radiologists are trouble. Radiology is a field of medicine for doctors who hate medicine and just want to cash in for doing tasks a tech could do. If she's in radiology, she's probably one of those inept types who plays the race/gender card at every opportunity to satisfy her own petty motives.

And yes women, especially those into online dating, are ridiculous.

I played around with Seeking Arrangement / What's Your Price for a while. Even the ugliest, most hopeless, undesirable turd wants "a nice guy" to "help her out" and "I'm not a whore", "I'm a nice intelligent cultivated woman and I want a handsome wealthy guy to take me out to dinner".

Most of the women aren't even serious, they just use those sites as a way of getting more men to leave them messages. There are some hits to be had but on the whole it's simply not worthwhile for absolutely anyone.

It's important to remember that the gender/race card is actually incredibly spotty in its application, being as it is a form of patronage that doesn't actually correct real-world injustices, and it tends to benefit the least deserving. The really great black girls aren't Oreo lawyers or doctors, they're the ones who work hard at semi-skilled jobs such as nursing, clerking, hospitality and such.

Also consider checking out descendents of recent immigrants (e.g., of Jamaican, Haitian, Nigerian or especially Barbados descent).

You're former military, you could probably meet some black female NCO. Don't you know of any social functions or something?

I'm not looking to date someone based exclusively on their race, otherwise I'd probably be looking to only meet white women so that I could avoid awkward family issues if things became serious. My radiologist is a technician, not an actual doctor, and she's white. She's also not the least bit ridiculous, at least not in the way most women are...so far.

I'd definitely date an "oreo," which is a pretty foul way to point the Uncle Tom finger at someone, by the way, because the only authenticity I'm concerned with is the authenticity of the relationship. I'd prefer someone who shares more cultural similarities with me than someone I only relate to because I grew up poor.

Racism is a fact of life in this country, and I'm well past pretending it isn't. The only way a black person can lose sight of that is to fall into the same trap of complacency and entitlement that makes so many white people so obnoxious, which is what I'm referring to by "Oreo".

People who have real strength of character and make their way in the world in their own right never lose sight of its evils.

Generally speaking, though, I agree with you completely - personality and compatibility above all else. I don't advocate profiling dates based on race except as a means towards that end so far as cultural factors go, particularly since you're an old guy probably looking to get serious.

It's an unfortunate reality, however, that the combination of deep-seated racism and PC have increasingly blurred whether it's the stereotype following reality or vice versa.

There's a real herd mentality in this country. Most people are content to let others define their values and identity.
