A few friends and myself decided to get into the whole YouTube thing. Recording games we all played with commentary/discussions/shenanigans (this was last week)

Then, out of no where THIS PIECE OF FUCK

This error seems to be the cause of my computer randomly freezing during game play

One of the friends also has an issue of freezing, same error. Google searched quite extensively earlier and it seems to either fall into problems with ram/gpu/psu but none of the answers give specificity.

Do any of you people know what the direct problem is? Have any of you dealt with it before?

The fact that the problem appears when you attempt to record suggest that the problem is one of the subsystems you are using cannot stand the extra load. Probably your video card is overheating or your PSU doesn't have enough juice to power the GPU, CPU and HD at high capacity at the same time.

Check the video card temperature when it is running at full load. What PSU wattage are you running?

Also video card model would be helpful.

It freezes now whenever I'm in a game, often without any recording software open at all.

CPU Type:
Intel® Core™ i7 CPU 950 @ 3.07GHz

CPU Speed:
3.09 GHz

System Memory:
5.99 GB

Video Card Model:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470

Video Card Memory:
3.96 GB

Video Card Driver:

Check video card and cpu temperatures under load, either one could cause that.

Memory burn-in test like Meowth linked is a good idea.

Those are the major culprits; there's more stuff to try if nothing turns up, but check those first.

I use these.

During no games my core temps were 49ish

During BF3 they were 60ish and after closing BF3 they were 55ish dropping a few mins later to 52ish

Memory error or drivers probably. Try reinstalling your drivers.
