Why U no like Gays?

http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/ ... rable?lite

Thanks for protecting us all from gay dudes banging each other....really. Totally needed. More Marriages/Unions isn't great for the economy or anything.

I don't know why people are getting so upset. It's not like North Carolina is doing anything that other states haven't done already...

Image

This happened exactly like it should happen. The state, not the federal government, decided to handle matters of their own concern and they voted. Mind you, this could've gone the other way and this amendment could've been shot down. In any case that's why it was brought to a vote -- to see what the people of North Carolina wanted as the rule to govern themselves. If the gay people in the state of North Carolina don't like the outcome then they're free to move to one of those blue states in the above image. That's the great thing about this... don't like it? Move. Problem solved.

PS: Thanks for removing the entire, "Bigotry is alive in Americura" thing, because I was going to point out how using this event to justify your own bigotry against the south is just as stupid. You saved me all the typing in response.

Sorry, it's just funny how you can substitute a different form of bigotry because really it's all the same...bigotry.

Really? It's just as stupid? No...no not at all. The south is run by bigots who want the government to legislate the Church's morality. You argue until you're blue in the face "oh but you hating on people making decisions you disagree with is bigoted HERRDERRR" -- well if those decisions are BIGOTED in and of themselves....

If we were back in the 1800s, and I said "people who own slaves are racist fucks" I'm bigoted? No really, I'm just calling a spade a spade.

The country is a large and diverse place. What's good for one area (based on whatever reasoning; economic, religious, agriculture, etc) might not be good for another area... that's why some around here advocate for smaller, less intrusive federal governments so local and state governments can handle issues like this.

They did something that they think is right for them... and while I don't give a damn if gays can marry or not (because I like vagina), it clearly meant something to them for some reason. You're upset about it... and that's fine. Remember, the flip-side of the evil "legislating church morality" is the equally evil "legislating YOUR morality", which 61.05% of North Carolina voters were against. Did they vote this way because of religion? Was it for something else? Who knows... it's hard to say without asking each of the voters. Regardless, it is what it is and, as I said before, the Gays can move if it means that much to them.

Edit: Before you point your finger solely on the South, perhaps you should look at that map again. Your beloved state with the shit-hole city of Chicago won't let Gays get married, either. The best they can get is a 'Union'. Man, you guys are a bunch of church's definition of marriage defending bigots.

1) its unfair to say everyone in the south hates gays, and it will be so until every state north of the mason-dixon on eturnals map is blue.

2) the vast majority of people who voted in this election(according to news station here, dont have a link) are 50 years old or older. Young people love to bitch about election results, but they hate to vote.

Regardless of the outcome, I firmly believe this is an issue that SHOULD be handled by the states. Honestly though, both sides of the bill had become so diluted no one would be happy with either result.

Whoa whoa...

1.) Illinois is not my beloved state...I've only lived here for less than 3 years...and it's a state run by morons. I'll freely admit it.
2.) Chicago is so not a shit hole. Have you ever been here? Rude! ;)

But yeah, to your point...it seems Illinois actually allows similar unions, just bans same sex marriage. The North Carolina legislation bans unions of any kind that aren't marriage between 1 man and 1 woman...which means a bunch of heterosexual civil unions are getting fucked over. It's just stupid.

I firmly believe that Government gets fucked when religion enters the debate. You are feigning ignorance and saying "oh we don't know why people voted the way they did." Please - it's religiously motivated and you know it. An overwhelming majority of people who voted to ban same sex marriage do so from a religious "HOMOSECKSULS AINT RITE" attitude. You can try to sugar coat it...but it's true.

Image

What the Federal government should do is just approve Civil Unions in all forms (man/man, man/woman, woman/woman). Don't call it marriage...just give equal tax breaks/incentives to any couple that wishes to be unified legally. Then you can leave it up to individual churches if they want to have same sex marriages or not.

Making religious issues civil issues fucks you every time....and not in a good way.

Why the fuck would quickmeme try and make my meme a .gif... Anyway, I tried to make a meme that had top caption: "North Carolina" and bottom caption: "Always the last to fall in line for the South's terrible ideas." Would've been witty and fresh. Fuck this shit, I'm going to take a shower and continue applying for jobs.

1. Civil rights are guaranteed by the law of the land (the Constitution) and always have been since 1789

2. This argument was invalid in 1960 and it's invalid now because states have never been able/willing to protect the rights of their minorities (e.g. black people) without the Feds stepping in

3. Tyranny of the majority - just because a vote was held doesn't make the outcome legitimate if it overrides the rights of a minority

4. The same states that cry and bitch the loudest about "states' rights" are the same states that cry and bitch when they fall victim to their own mistakes and demand the Feds fix their problems for them (e.g., Orleans typhoon, BP disaster, 60s race wars, military base closures).

"States' rights" has never meant anything more than rednecks insisting on their right to ignorance.

5. Ridiculous hypocrisy

Quote:
Federal Outlays : Tax Revenue Ratio
1. New Mexico ($2.03 / $1.00)
2. Mississippi ($2.02 / $1.00)
3. Alaska (lol) ($1.84 / $1.00)
........
27. North Carolina ($1.08 / $1.00)
........
40. Massachusetts ($0.82 / $1.00)
........
42. New York ($0.79 / $1.00)
43. California ($0.78 / $1.00)

Funny how the states that get the most handouts are the ones that cry loudest about "states' rights".

Funny how these "states' rights" people don't have a problem with "federal tyranny" working in their favor.

Maybe the "liberal elitist" states that are quietly footing their bills know something the rednecks don't.

I don't agree. Actually, I think marriage should be defined as a marriage between a man and a woman. Why? Because the purpose of the legal institution of marriage is as the basis for the family unit, which is necessary for a stable society.

I am of the conservative viewpoint that there is nothing good that can come of redefining traditional institutions on a whim. If gays want to have relationships or whatnot, they don't need marriage to do that, and I don't believe that a proliferation of ideologically driven laws etc are good for the credibility of our legal system. The credibility of our laws and government suffer when they are made a battleground for people's attitudes.

I would oppose any law banning gay marriage, and I would oppose any law legalizing gay marriage.

I also believe that these dumb arguments about gays are a waste of political energy better spent on real issues.

It's not a religious issue. The people in question have many cultural inclinations, of which religion is only one aspect of a larger picture. These same people are also jimboistic and anti-intellectual. You could drive by that church on another day and see placards about our redneck heroes in Iraq stopping dem terrorists or about "Red Obama".

They're not homophobic because they're religious any more than because they're jimboistic or anti-intellectual, they're homophobic because they're small-minded and superstitious. It's just a cultural attitude they have.

I'm not good with numbers, but 8 cents on the dollar doesn't sound nearly so horrible as 40 cents on the dollar, which is what the federal government is borrowing.

But like I said, I'm not good with numbers.
