IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A WEAPON TO SPLIT SOMEONE'S SKULL, OR A HELM TO PROTECT YOUR OWN, WE HAVE EVERYTHING YA NEED RIGHT HEER.

I will always remember that deep voice. I remember being a young teenager and popping a raging boner everytime the innkeeper/bartender speak. That game satisfied all my cravings.

Yeah, when the camera focused on her for her dialogue, it was a glorious sight/sound. And you're right, they were some pretty neat graphics for the time. And not too often would you see such gore/profanity/cleavage in gamecube games.

So, having completely finished Emerald and Coliseum, got a DSlite and am playing through HeartGold. As I said, I plan on sequentially clearing the entire series, trading all the exclusive pokemon etc forward one generation to the next, in characteristic Aestu fashion.

I find both HeartGold and the DSlite itself to be...very underwhelming.

The DS system includes "stereo" speakers (as opposed to the single speaker on the GBA), but it sounds much tinnier to my ears than the GBA. The sound quality in HeartGold also scales much worse at low volumes than the GBA variants - it doesn't sound coherent at all except at a fairly high volume, which seems silly given one would expect the system to be designed with discreteness in mind.

Animations on the DS have noticeable blur. The dual-screen presentation comes off as gimmicky and obnoxious. I don't understand why my eyes should have to shift to the second screen whenever I open a menu. Basically it makes doing anything in the game feel like an effort, in stark contrast to the easy-playing GBA. The game world has poor definition and I am embarrassed to say it took me ten minutes to figure out how to get through that ledge on the first Route.

The game itself feels way overdone, lacking the simple elegance of the original. Menu and world animations are way too flashy and detailed, making small things like healing or opening a menu take an irksome split second too long.

It takes about 20 seconds to save the game. I don't understand why. That the game says, "saving a lot of data" implies the developers felt the need to make a sort of excuse; I find it hard to believe this is due to anything other than terrible programming. How much data could it be?

HeartGold feels like a console game that was squished down to portable size.

The screens are much too bright. I'm sure there's a menu or something to adjust it, but I wish there was a manual toggle for the backlight. This is particularly annoying because the inactive screen often plays some animation or something which causes my eyes to involuntarily dart away.

The construction of the DS feels way too delicate. It feels like a pricey cellphone or high-tech gadget, not a tank like the GBA. The "tankiness" of the GBA was a major part of the fun factor: one need not handle the thing with kid gloves. The screen also seems to have greater conductivity, leading it to draw dust and blemish more easily than the GBA and necessitating more frequent cleaning.

Oh. And worst of all. The DS is MUCH more optimized for Japanese hands than the GBA. FFS.
Can't they make a "DS Gaijin Edition" or something?

Ok. Simple question.

How do I connect my DS with HeartGold to Wi-Fi?

-How, simply, is it done?
-Do I have to go to a store to enable the function first?
-Do I have to use a dedicated Nintendo hotspot, or will any hotspot do?
-Can I make a network bridge using my cable modem/PC/Wii rather than rely on a hotspot?

You mean irl or ingame? And can a connection only be made there, or just initially?

Defeats the purpose of mobile gaming, doesn't it?

any hotspot will do, but I found that it needs to be WEP instead of WAP or WAP2 or something that isn't WEP. Twas annoying tweaking my router. I've only connected and traded once, but it wasn't terribly difficult.

You can connect on any Wifi but only at Pokemon centers.

If you have a black/white version, use mystery gift from the main menu (before you continue your save) and connect to Nintendo WFC, free (legendary?) Pokemon.

Lucinth and Fanta are saying two contradictory things.

Spure is failing at trying to RP one of those monoverbal Chinese stock anime characters.

Fanta is saying that the DS systems can only/prefer to connect to Wifi that use WEP as the password encryption. I think that only applies to the DS systems and not the 3DS, as I don't have this problem.

I was just saying that if you've picked up your Black or White version, you can get a free strong Pokemon from Nintendo WFC for another week or so.

Though ideally, you can go anywhere with an open Wifi and use it in game.

Oh, so for the promotions only, it is necessary to use the Nintendo WFC?

I had intended to play through the full series from Generation III forward before getting black/white, but looking it up now it seems as a result of taking my time doing so, I missed the Lucario/Arceus promotions.

-_-

I hope I can pick those up through trading with someone.

What exactly is the difference between Wifi and GlobalLink?

Unless you want to exploit pokecheck.org to obtain them, yeah you can't get certain Pokemon outside of promotions/trades.

I think GlobalLink is the service you connect to through the Wifi. I think it's called Global Trade Network in Black/White but it's the same thing.

http://www.nintendo.com/3ds/nintendozone

Is a "Nintendo Zone" just a generic Wifi location on Nintendo's list of known Wifi locations or does it actually have proprietary Nintendo content specific to the connection?

And does it work with the DS or just the 3DS?
