That's the problem with facebook. They make money on advertising, yes. However, in terms of long term growth...their advertising performs like dogshit when compared to Google and other internet companies. It's almost comical how bad it is.

So that aside...they have some deals with game companies (Zynga) and get some kickbacks here and there.

They are going to try this "featured post" thing where you could pay to h ave your post show up on all your friends' walls (this will fail miserably). They can never charge for facebook, because people will just move to another site.

So yeah - really not a good long term business plan.

really, even if we have to pay to use it I would pay.

Only reason where I would leave the site would be when the people important to me stop using it.

Then the question becomes: "Would they pay?".

There is no free lunch. It's merely a question of who's buying.

you're the 99% until you're the 1%.

also, i am by no means supporting the incredible division of the economic classes, but i would like to say that a fair amount of the 1% spend the majority of their money investing in future business, technology, and medicine. just because someone is obscenely wealthy doesn't exactly mean their bank account reads CHECKING : $13,000,000,000, or that they swim in a pile of gold coins like Scrooge McDuck. mark zuckerberg is a prime example of this. his contributions to web investing, the gates foundation, education, and his streamlining of online business had to be financed by something. i think this movement needs to spend less time focusing on the actual amount of money a person or company "has" vs. what they spend it on, or if at all.

Verily, I have often laughed at weaklings who thought themselves proud because they had no claws.

If you think the status quo will ever benefit you (or anyone you are likely to know), you are a fool.

Why do you believe this? What gave you this idea? Is there a reason or are you just going for the propaganda? If you can't articulate your reason for believing what you do then its likely you're simply being manipulated.

You realize that our economic troubles are driven in large part by speculation etc that is totally unproductive? And why would the rich invest in technology? To make money? Where's that money coming from? They already have it all, remember?

Which is why the IPO came AFTER the business was successful?

This is a cute way of saying you're gullible and go for the bullshit rather than do your own thinking.

Do you really think the same sociopath who stabbed the other founders of Facebook in the back, lies to customers and scammed investors, became a really cool dude just in time to donate some of his ill-gotten gains to charity?

Or maybe he's doing it because it's a good way to buy PR.

Which makes more sense to you?

The thing is, all of the counters to your claims are obvious with a moment's thought. So why aren't they obvious to you? Surely there's a reason.

Making billions by swindling small-time investors and then spending that money on charity doesn't absolve you of being a dick.

If you do the wrong thing for the right reasons, or the right thing for the wrong reasons, you're wrong no matter how right you are.

Or something like that, man, I just woke up.

Man, I'd really love to believe that, but the pessimist in the back of my head tells me he's using charities for tax write offs. And that's when Bob Dylan starts singing his line about tax deductible charity oh gun uh zations.

Wealth in and of itself isn't a bad thing. Wealth obtained through exploitation of the Earth's resources and of the lowest class of citizens is disgusting. To sum it up in one sentence: You can't reap the rewards of capitalism without being exposed to the risks associated with capitalism.

And that's exactly what is going on in America and in the world as a whole. The same banks that received bailout money are now foreclosing on the same people that form the backbone of the US economy and the US workforce.

Wealth is not bad. Immoral business practices leading to the gaining of wealth is bad. Corporations aren't bad. The extent that corporations influence our government is bad.

I'm really tired of hearing about how Occupy 'just hates rich people' because it oversimplifies the shit out of a legitimate issue.
