There's laws against bribery.

There's laws against murder and prostitution too.

People still get murdered and fuck hookers.

People don't bribe?

This is a pretty good example of argumentum ad ignorantiam.

There are laws against a lot of things. For example, in CA it is illegal to marry your sister, to eat your horse, and to own a slave.

But how common are any of those things? Is the existence of laws forbidding incest, the consumption of horse meat, and slave trading, evidence that those offenses occur with any significant frequency?

So I'll ask you again. Do you have proof, or is this just your ignorant presumption that facts in the world necessarily agree with your totally ignorant notions?

So explain to me what corruption is if it's not a form of accepting bribes, whether monetary or otherwise.

Ok, sure, we can agree on that definition. Back to square one. Do you have proof?

I thought this wasn't a court of law.

Hey I'm just waiting on you to prove that you can pull someone's tonsils out through their nose.

I'll go on believing that bribery exists, because it does and you're a fool to think otherwise.

Based on what?

Because you think so?
Because you refuse to read anything anywhere?
Because you assume everyone is as small-minded and dishonest as you?

"Only a fool would disagree with my 100% ignorant opinions"
[definition of ignorant being knowledge level of exactly zero, as in you know, literally, nothing]
...isn't very convincing.

I mean do you think that should be a convincing argument? Yes or no?

EDIT: Actually, according to the Socratic definition, your knowledge level is less than zero, since not only do you know nothing, but you do not even know that you know nothing, and believe a lot of things that are provably untrue.

Really? This is too difficult for you?

It exists, get over it.

Resorting to Google is bad enough. Resorting to Yahoo is worse.
But worse still is when your own results debunk your position.

So...what now? You desperately linked a Google search and even that proved you wrong. If it proved you right, you'd expect us to consider your point proven. Now that it proved you wrong, are you going to be equally gracious?

I was stating that bribery exists and linked results of convictions of bribery.

I'm not seeing how I just disproved myself. You honestly think bribery doesn't exist? Really? THAT is the one vice human beings have been able to put down?

In a bunch of third world countries, yes. You've done nothing to prove it occurs with any frequency in American politics.

Bribery is a crime not a vice. There is a difference.

Believe it or not, sometimes, the system works decently well.

Really you're proving my point about a related issue. If you don't think that it's possible to successfully fight corruption or improve human nature for the better, then the only reason you could possibly want to be a cop is for the reasons that are obvious to everyone else which is that you are stupid and insecure and want a chip on your shoulder so you can pretend you aren't and a gang so you can push people around and be as corrupt as you believe everyone else is.

I mean, logically, if you think the good fight is futile, and people and institutions are going to be equally corrupt no matter what, what other reason would you have to be a cop?

How can you competently exercise the public trust if you don't believe there is such a thing?
