Likewise.

Also secondary sources, are indirect, from someone that isnt you, therefore you have no clue of what really happened. History prior to 1700 could be a giant lie kept by the world, and you would have no damn clue about it. Really if you think about it, there is very little in this world you can actually prove. Thoroughly, in first person.

I'll say it again. You don't know what that term means.

Aestus way of covering a topic, saying someone doesnt know what something means.

It's a perfectly valid response.

You are right Aestu I dont, and your great life of accomplishing so many great things and being very successful especially in the department of collecting mounts in a pixelated game, proves that you know quite a lot and put it to use. I feel esteemed and honored to be in the presence of such a great and known man. Aestu the all Knowing. No sarcasm. <3 you Ethan.

I only was able to obtain my 127th mount because I happened to know that one of the defining characteristics of the field of classical studies is its abundance of primary sources, written during the events in question by the participants, which is also why we still study the languages those people spoke and wrote in.

That is the definition of a primary source - materials directly from the time and place of the events in question. Interestingly, and ironically, in this context, there are very, very few primary sources surviving from the corresponding period in Eastern history, because of several great purges of libraries during the succeeding centuries.

So if you were to argue that over-reliance on secondary sources, supposition and bias might contribute to incorrect statements about that past, that is far more likely to apply to anything you may have heard about the East than my claims about the West.

But how does that mount make you feel? Are you hoping someday currency becomes world of warcraft mounts?

Also many records of western civilization were destroyed too. Also im not saying Eastern civilization is better, im saying it deserves some credit that you seem to have not given it.

Upon reading this response, it's making me grimace.

It already does. I just try to make sure it's other people's currency.

The high point of my stay in Tempest was trading an Ironbound for a Riding Turtle.
The high point of my ICC farming was trading a Shadowmourne for a Winged Guardian.

The destruction of the Library of Alexandria was a big loss. That said, we still have a far greater volume of material that gives us a much sharper image than of the same period in China.

The Art of War and Tao Te Ching typically top my favorites list and have influenced me deeply. Amongst my suggestions for fixing American family values was lifting ideas and rituals from Eastern culture (e.g., ancestor worship).

Just because I don't believe that Eastern civilization is the equal of the West doesn't mean I don't give it credit for what they have accomplished.

I think we already have enough informal ancestor/culture worship in our society as it is. It always seems to me that people are more proud of what their ancestors or the culture/nationality they descended from have accomplished than they are of what they have accomplished, likely because so many people have accomplished so little. It's like the Jedi should be hearing a million voices screaming in agony, "It doesn't matter that I suck, look what my forebearers accomplished!"

Race/nationality =/= direct lineal ancestors

The only individuals required to be worshipped by everyone would be American national heroes.
