blizzard makes billions a year, can't afford servers that can go over a week without maintenence.

Considering the AH has been down almost every time I was on last week, I don't think so.

I'm no Jubber about server maintenance but I'd guess they use the downtime to make backups of all the databases, install patches, run utilities to improve the server health, reboot the machines, etc. This is a good thing since it'll improve the games stability going forward. Also, having a set time each week for this maintenance is nice since it's not during peak times and players can expect weekly maintenance.

I always thought Diablo was about grinding through content to get better gear, just to grind through the 'same' content to get better gear. If you remove the reason to grind through content (other than "I LIEK GRINDING THROUGH CONTENT") then what else is there to play for?

Serious question.

Unless you're spending on the RMAH for gold, then you farm gold, to buy the gear so you can clear the Act.

Otherwise, you're farming items to sell for gold so that you can sell that gold on the RMAH.

Does anyone seriously believe that won't lead to hyperinflation and "$$$ or go home" before the year is out?

While I generally agree with your understanding of Diablo's purpose, Inferno is actually impossible if you don't farm the AH a little bit. Every difficulty before that is perfectly doable without AHing though.

Also, Diablo has patches just like WoW. Occasional downtime shouldn't be surprising; at least we expect it to always be Tuesday.

RMAH has a cap on dollar value you can set for an item. Prices will go up eventually but not at bumfuck retarded levels like Runescape has.

That you actually think I'm talking about dollar inflation is telling.

I'm finding myself not liking this game anymore, I put 50+ hours into it in the first 4 days, finished Hell and have hardly logged in since:[ I'm not really a fan of random farming, I can deal with wasting hours of my life farming levels in games like Final Fantasy but the idea of farming the same piece of game over and over for the chance of getting something that I could use(or something that is worth gold to turn into items I can use) just sounds so boring > <.

I was hoping that the difficulty would follow an arc and that skill would be a larger factor then the gear. I fucked up by rolling a monk since I knew I wouldn't be able to kite with a melee toon but I was assuming there was going to be some kind of way to grind my way through things and I have to say Elites in Hell were hard enough. I wish that they had properly scaled mobs instead of making them body chuckable. I mean really the last game I remember body chucking working in was Halo1, legendary in that was a joke if you did it on co-op, but they fixt it in Halo2 so you lost if someone died. In this game you can just kite shit to your spawn point and then kill yourself on them like 5 times until they are all dead :{

I kinda wish D3 were like D1(I never played D2), in that the game was tuned correctly and you played through from level1 0gear and "skilled"(the caster was fucking hard >< ) your way through the game.

Man I am such a complainer !

Get mad fanboys!

Quote:
Diablo III is mostly very slick. It’s a very decent game. The first three hours are very gratifying, a sense of having everything done right. It’s an aRPG born of decades of experience, streamlined and minimalist to the point of diamond-like perfection. But much like a perfect diamond, it bears a lot in common with a bit of glass. That all-encompassing need to Just Keeping Clicking is there, the sense of continuous, satisfactory progress is in place. You’re never not improving your equipment, skills and crafting abilities. It’s the concept of Diablo, and of a decade’s Diablo clones, refined. But with absolutely nothing new.
