Sometimes it's just mindboggling how anybody at Blizzard thinks some things are good ideas.
Honest truth:
I think the problem is Blizzard HQ itself.
The employees never need to leave; they have on-site recreation, restaurants, villages, entertainment, etc. And everything is Blizzard-themed.
It's like living in Disneyland.
In this environment of engineered unreality, Blizzard Entertainment is God and as constant, pervasive and infallible as the gigantic buildings. Any notion to the contrary is anethema. And given the physical and cultural isolation of the place - the result is an echo chamber, even mass insanity, as the ideas they groupthink become ever more divorced from the reality outside.
That is what I think is really behind Blizzard's bizarre decisions. The physical and cultural unreality of Blizzard HQ is literally driving them insane.
