SimAnt, the game of spam troops at the spider until it dies and take over the world of little Jimmy's backyard.

SimAnt was more comic relief than anything else. Whether you played with Silly on or not. It felt a lot less controllable than SC2K because of how much the AI did all the work, managing other colonies.

For me - I was always a SC2K kid. Thinking back, I remember the last time I visited Sacramento - must be seven years ago now - we were driving down the main thoroughfare to the Amtrak station, it was a clear, bright warm day, and we heard a jazz band playing.

"It's just like in Sim City," said Aaron.

The "death by spider" screen still creeps me out even after I haven't played the game in nearly a decade.

The animation would probably kill Zaryi outright.

Also, why do we let public sector employees to unionize?

How do you feel about police unions?

Unionizing any public sector is a bad idea.

Everything from teachers, to cops, to the military.

Wait, are you trying to say that making it so you literally can't fire people for being terrible at their job is a bad idea? That's crazy talk!

Ha, but seriously, I love this.

My sister is a high school teacher. Some of her fellow teachers are simply terrible at their jobs, don't care to improve, and have no incentive to. They have tenure. They cannot be fired unless they do something absurd like abuse a kid or something. They have really fat paychecks. They have fat pensions, and they have zero accountability.

You know what happens in schools? All the new teachers get fired first, because the older teachers cannot be fired due to the strength of their unions. Being a great teacher is not rewarded.

This is where unions can be extremely detrimental to the common good.

Would you think it better if the PTA could get a teacher fired whenever she flunked a kid or did something someone somewhere didn't like?

You didn't answer my question. Why is it okay for corps to unionize but not individuals?

I'm not sure I understand the question.

People don't understand how teachers work, don't worry about it.

Starting salary for a teacher in the nice suburban part of NJ I'm from is 40k. It takes them 40 years to get "fat" pensions. The nice thing about being a teacher is job security and a guaranteed yearly raise, not the fat paycheck. It sucks that young teachers get fired first during budget cuts, but think about it this way: teachers have one skills. They can teach. If you let the career become competitive, no teacher will stay employed past 50. It might be more efficient, at least for a few years/decades, but once the last batch of new recruits realize just what they got into, no one will ever become a teacher ever again.

Corporations can work together to promote legislation, fix prices, define the market, and influence the media, through PACs, business associations, and collusion.

They can operate across borders and work together, to pit individual states, nations and individuals against each other.

So why should workers not be allowed to do the same?

This is America, man! It's all about low taxes, cheap Chinese goods and not having to think about anything more complicated than a ten-second TV advert! Screw thinking about the future!

Are you assuming that if the career became competitive, teachers would lose job security because of the governments' inability to finance a surplus of teachers?

This.

(that said, if teacher unions were dismantled, teachers would get even more blame than ever before)

"even good teachers can't teach shit kids"
fixed?

You're right, teachers get blamed for dgaf parents raising dgaf kids. Once we can apply accountability to the parents, then we'll see a slight improvement. Can't blame the teachers if they reach out to the kid and the parents.

yeah thanks for catching that. This is getting off topic, however.
