I think it's WoW's fault. It's a game I played longer than any other, and once it started sucking, I just lost the taste for gaming in general.

Maybe it's because I used to never be able to get the games I wanted...and now I can get whatever game I want. Maybe the novelty of gaming has just worn off. I just can't even beat games anymore:

1.) Skyrim - bought it, played a bunch (became leader of dark brotherhood, thieves guild, and companions)...did little in the main story..I no longer play at all
2.) Mass Effect 3 - played it a bit, but stopped after the Krogan planet. Haven't picked it back up in months.
3.) Diablo 3 - Didn't even get it
4.) Starcraft 2 - Bought it, played for about 2 weeks, then stopped playing
5.) Pokemon White Version - Play it for about 2 hours a week...the other two games I have for DS I haven't even played
6.) Rollercoaster Tycoon - I bought this gold version, for some old school gaming. I played a load for about a week...then I lost some save data, got discouraged, and haven't played it since
7.) Dead Island - I talked about this game on here earlier...played through about 75% then just stopped playing. Haven't picked it up since.

Is it a time thing? Maybe I just don't have the time with work and such.
Is it bad that I don't game anymore?
I feel like I shouldn't even buy games...it's just a waste of money because I get so bored with them.

I know I used to play 20+ hours a week on games...probably well over 40 at my peak of WoW addiction. Now? I probably play 2-3 hours of video games a week...if that.

I guess I'm not a gamer anymore.

This video makes too many promises, but if it rivals WoW then we're in for a good time. Don't you love that new time suck smell?

P.S. I can't imagine Charlie Day growing bored of video games so this thread is nonsense.

It's not that you're not a gamer anymore, it's that gamer isn't you anymore.

Guild Wars 2 is smelling more and more like moon pie.

Amazingly, some people actually believe that money doesn't change hands to create those "pro reviewer" promo videos. The "no monthly fee" thing is horseshit. There is no free lunch.

That's a spread, not a rug. If you win the auction, sure I'll include it.

'Gaming' is only worth it if you're having fun. If you're not having fun playing what you already own then you're just not into it anymore or the games that you have are the wrong games for you. Personally, I can't stand Bioware RPGs or Bethesda's walking simulators like TES games or Fallout 3... but I still buy them expecting a surprise. The pacing of the BioWare/Bethesda non-linear games just doesn't work for me. I'm not completely against non-linear games though since Rockstar's sandbox games, like Grand Theft Auto 4 and Red Dead Redemption, are always worth my time and are worthy of full completion.

Maybe you need to consume your games in smaller bites by taking games that can be beaten or enjoyed without spending dozens or hundreds of hours in a single playthrough? Check out the HumbleBundle.com since they have eight games that you could get through donating to some charity and/or the developers... and if you like them on Facebook, you'll know whenever new bundles surface. That's a good way to find some enjoyable and unique experiences.

Personally, I like the Diablo-esqe games where I can play by myself and just mindlessly kill stuff. Torchlight does this, too, but without any story and with a smaller pricetag. Both games are fun and you can 'progress' a little bit each night without getting wrapped up in forever-long quest chains or 10 minute long story cut scenes.

Another game you might have fun with is Sim City. Sim City is releasing a new game in the next year, but Sim City 4 is still around for pretty cheap. I think you'll enjoy it because the game is all about management, design and money.

If you like FPS games just buy Battlefield 3 and play multi-player. The game is gratifying in the sense that almost everything you do will contribute to the success of the team; resupply your squad, revive fallen soldiers, lay suppression fire, man a tank or fly a jet.

A PS Vita/PSP has a lot of old-style RPGs and platformers, via the PS Store, so if you're looking for something to play while in bed (or on the shitter) then that might be worth checking out.

Of course there isn't a free lunch. You have to buy the game.

And then what's the incentive to keep servicing it and adding new content?

Conversely, what's the incentive to not turn it into a P2W game?

Episodic releases and expansions. I only suggest this because that's what happened with the first Guild Wars.

GW1 was a hardcore game, released in a less structured business environment, that sold a few hundred thousand boxes.

GW2 is a fundamentally causal game, released in the modern day of franchise gaming, that is intended to be the next WoW.

The two are not comparable. Anet is not looking for the kind of revenue they got with GW1 nor are they taking a similar approach

He might not be intending to get it, in which case not caring is totally understandable.

I sure don't.

Never thought I'd see the day when someone is depressed they can't game 20+ hours a week. It's called growing up.

His issue, as I read it, isn't that he doesn't have the free time, it's that he just doesn't feel as "into it" as he used to.

Perhaps you might call a change of tastes in that respect growing up as well, but I would presume you'd agree that particular issue is a game and not a player problem.

I freely admit I wish I had more to do. I am waiting on hearing back from grad school (again). I wish I had a more busy life. So that much I agree with you on.
