His issue, as I read it, isn't that he doesn't have the free time, it's that he just doesn't feel as "into it" as he used to.

Perhaps you might call a change of tastes in that respect growing up as well, but I would presume you'd agree that particular issue is a game and not a player problem.

I freely admit I wish I had more to do. I am waiting on hearing back from grad school (again). I wish I had a more busy life. So that much I agree with you on.

Well as you grow older tastes change. Do adults still enjoy playing Candyland or other incredibly simple games? Probably not unless they are playing with their children. I agree WoW is terrible in its current form. But again I started playing and had the most fun when i was 16-17 and had no responsibilities. Now at 23 it just doesn't feel worth the time.

I still play computer games. But my interest has definitely changed. MMOs/grind based games like WoW or D3 really aren't that interesting to me. I like being able to hop on for a 20-30 minute game of League of Legends or SC2 and then log off as time requires.

Growing up is depressing.

I agree. Took me 2-3 years to snap out of an awful funk that I was in. As I tell my students "life is tough."

I think Mazel and Aestu are both kinda right.

I am sad because the fact is...I'm "growing up" in a lot of ways...and part of that is not being as interested in games in general. It's just the passing of an era I guess. I remember when all I cared about was logging onto a game and farting away hours on end having a blast.

That said, Aestu is also right in that new games today just aren't "grabbing" me. I have not been addicted to a game since WoW. I used to get addicted to games all the time...and I liked it. Now, I play a game like ME3 or Skyrim and I have fun...but it starts to feel like a job or something. The gratification just isn't there.

Perhaps the solution is more LoL type games...pick it up, play for 30 minutes, then move on.

Team Fortress 2 isn't really new, but I'm having way too much fun with it.

DotA2 is coming out soon I think, it's going to be free to play with all heroes unlocked. Only thing that you can spend money on atm are skins for looking pretty and I think "XP ups" but as of yet I have no idea what XP really gives you(I'm 3rd level in beta and it hasn't changed anything).

On topic... Yea I pretty much agree with the above, I haven't been sucked in by any time consuming games since WoW and I just play that to keep in touch with my guildys. I pretty much gave up on buying new games like 2 years ago because I kept throwing money at them, installing them on my computer playing them for a few hours in one sitting and then never touching them again. I will admit I was sucked into D3, but it wasn't because it looked like an awesome game. It was pretty much only 2 reasons and I only played it for about a week. Thing one was that it was "free" for me since I was playing WoW anyway, thing two was that I had agreed to level along with a friend of mine and he was really into it so I didn't want to slow him down.

I miss the days of my youth when I would sit and play FF1-6 and Chrono Trigger and all the clones Square Soft made or Zelda or what ever for hours on end. Pretty much the only games that have sucked me in since the Snes closed have been Pokemon(pretty similar to a Square Soft game) Halo since i loved getting 8-16 ppl in a living room shooting each other and WoW :[

games are more fun if you play with people you like.

so find them first. then find a game.

This. I never seriously raided after they all quit, and I don't see myself starting up again in the future.
