good stuff brah

What i suggest you do is try and work out about what your max is for each movement. Note it down or whatever. Do like 4 sets of 6-8 reps or something at close to your max or do the seets to failure. I would do 3 sets at 'max' and then do the fourth to failure. Either way you want to be lifting heavy so work out what your max is without it being too much that your form suffers or you just flat out hurt yourself. You need to be able to measure and improve so this is pretty important otherwise you're just dicking around in the gym getting way shittier results than you could be.

Also in general be aware of hurting yourself. Don't fall into poor form. And if you have any kind of joint pain just stop. Overdoing it is bad too.

This is common sense i know, but nothing worse than not being able to work out your arms for a week because you fucked your elbow up doing way too many chin ups.

>_>

What Spacehunter suggested is definitely something to work towards. I would think you could be doing sets like that in about 2-3 weeks if you really grasp the concepts of breathing while lifting, weight control and proper diet/rest.

edit :: To clarify, when i said weight control, i should have said proper form while lifting. Just wanted to add this.

Looking for advice as to what foods/stretches/exercises I should look into. I'm a skinny 20 year old who only enjoys cardio. I jog in the neighborhood because I enjoy the jogger's high. I've recently noticed small pains in my knee and joints because of the terrain that I'm jogging in. But then I read somewhere that focusing cardio only isn't good if it's the only thing you're focusing on.

What should I include into my rotation of cardio?

I like the wow version but the only parts that are funny are the image for crowd control, the gamer glove comment, and the end bit about runescaaaape.

Swimming and the elliptical machine are good for cardio that isn't rough on the knees.

I haven't been to the gym in months. I gave my key fob check-in thing to my roommate. They'll never know the difference. They haven't seen me enough to know the difference.

In theory I want to go to the gym to tone up. In reality I'd rather not do that exercise thing. :p

I am just wondering what a fairly thin woman (5'10" and 115lbs) can do to tone up. I don't want to lose any more weight. I don't look out of shape, but my legs get sore if I am walking up the stairs from the beach. I have a paintball tournament coming up and want to kick ass and take names.

Add cycling to that -- it's the only cardio I can personally stand/enjoy. Elliptical is kind of fun but you're stuck to a gym, and swimming is okay but you're stuck to a relatively confined space and can't listen to music. They are good options, nonetheless.

I'm really hesitant to criticize people on the low end of the weight spectrum, especially in a country plagued by fatties, but 5'10'' 115 is a bit too low in general. I'm between 5'10'' and 5'11'' (guy) and when I weighed 125, I looked like Captain America pre-buff. Ironically, I was in extremely good cardio shape, biking about 200 miles a week.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21121834

This population study obviously won't mean you specifically will suffer, but there is a J shaped curve when it comes to BMI and health risks. Most health nuts and physicians I talk to cite the biggest risk of being underweight is that if you encounter a semi-serious health condition and end up in the hospital, your body's ability to recover or tolerate the stress will be severely handicapped. And of course, you don't want to sit on the fence between your body utilizing fat and carbs vs lean tissue and organ tissue.

My advice is to add some weight doing resistance exercises and eating a minimum of 1.2g protein/kg body weight. Then, you would want to focus on making sure your body fat % is low by doing plenty of cardio and eating a clean diet. There is such a thing as "thin but fat." The advantage of starting out as a skinny person is you really won't have much fat to cut at all.

If you want practical rather than aesthetic improvements (for stairs and paintball), you just need to add some muscle and make sure your cardio is in reasonable shape. Even small commitments such as 30 minutes a day several days a week can make a noticeable difference.

I know I am very thin. It is my resting wait though. I have a ravenous appetite. :) I have severe food allergies though, so my protein intake is not what it should be.

I am not skinny fat. I'm just not as strong as I'd like to be.

If you did some strength building exercises you would likely gain weight by building muscle. The one common and unfounded fear i hear from people is "I want to lift but I don't want to have super huge muscles". Guess what..... that just won't happen unless you become a gym freak. Basic weight lifting routines can be built to accomplish many goals. A good leg exercise are lunges. These can be performed with 0 weight but if done correctly will show you pretty good results. EVen performing squats with no weight will provide a decent workout for your legs.

My wife is 5'5" @ 108 pounds and she does the above exercises as well as others combined with bicycling, swimming and elliptical. She is pretty dam strong for her size.

I am sorely disappointed that this post has been up 10 hours and no one has made any "I'll slip you some protein" jokes.

If you people are starting to mature, I'll have to find some new imaginary friends.
