Personally, 2005 and continue on to 2009. 2009 had a change of director so he went off to do his own thing. Honestly, your choice, how much free time you got? Can you handle 6 seasons, or 2 seasons?

2005. Rose is best companion, and the first season does a wonderful job of setting up and explaining the universe for newbs.

Also, the person who took over Doctor Who after Davies left is Steve Moffat, who's newest brainchild is Sherlock..... I haven't gotten to the point where he takes over, but I'm surprised that Super doesn't seem to be a fan D:

I'd also totally recommend Burn Notice and Arrested Development.

Also Xeoni, OMGTHATAVATAR LOLOLOLOOLLLOLOLOL

Indeed, Sarah Jane was and always will be the best companion, which was why they brought here back after several decades.

I like the new stuff, don't get my wrong, but I can remember when it was all cheap special effects and stuff written by guys like Douglas Adams. There's even an old episode written by Adams where John Cleese makes a cameo. You can't beat stuff like that.

I do like the old-school Alan Scott Green Lantern reference they've thrown into New Who about how the Sonic Screwdriver doesn't work on wood. I honestly laugh every time they do that.

Donna is reprehensible. Worst out of any of all time. Donna is stupid, unbelievably selfish/self-absorbed and her story line was bad. When she
Spoiler (highlight to view):
loses her memory she goes back to being a worthless human being, it shows her true nature.
I'll take anyone over Donna any day, she's insufferable. The best episodes of Donna's season were Silence in the library, forest of the dead and midnight. Common theme? She didn't have much screen time.

Rory, Amy, Rose, Martha and Donna is order of how good the companions are.

Of all the new companions, I like Rory the best. The love of his life is pretty insufferable (if you consider how inconsiderate she is toward him) and he sticks by her...for 2000 fucking years...then she gets caught in a time loop for a measly few decades and is a complete bitch about it. It's not surprising Amy is a soulless ginger.

If we count male characters, Rory is best, I agree, but Rose, Martha and Amy are all shit, they are the exact same characters, "Hi, i'm female and I love the doctor, but he doesn't like me, HUR DUR, why won't the doctor love me!"

Hence why I like Donna, I again agree, Donna losing her memory was bullshit and annoying, but we also had Donna's Grandpa, who I don't really count as a companion, but still enjoyed him. I'll change best companion now to Rory.

Everyone sites the Donna and the doctor not being romantically involved as their reason for liking her. I suggest enjoying Rose season 1 or Amy season 2 then since that angle is nearly non-existent during those points. I don't think Martha is a good character really, her first episode would have been fine if that was all she did though. Ending of season two was stupid and I really disliked Rose for the majority of season two(Micky also sucks, and so does Rose's mom). Donna though... I can't stand her. She is unbearable to me, everything she does is annoying. I understand the hate of the doctor companion romance crap, but current one is pretty much devoid of it with the exception of River- which isn't really the same since she's definitely not like the rest of the companions.

PS: You ever watch Torchwood? I despise Gwen, I think she is an awful person.
