So, I'm going to get a MA in accounting. Now I need to figure out how to pay for it.

Research indicates that the immediate, most accessible option is the Stafford Federal Loan, but it is, of course, a loan.

Military service is an attractive option. But the military's options seem to be mostly undergraduate. How much and what sort of incentive do they give for graduate studies, if at all? Eturnal/Jubber/etc?

There's also work study and other related programs. Information indicates I would need to speak with campus authorities directly.

Anyone have any further advice? I start August 27 so...

I don't know much about loans... or anything of that sort... i have a FAFSA but its only for like $1,300... parents insisted that i get it for last semester though, since my dad was unemployed at the time.

Start working i guess ?

My step-sister got a lot of schooling paid for through the Shriners.

But you have to be a Shriner or related to one in some way.

This is a joke, right? Or are you just that desperate to impose your world vision by preventing me from propagating myself?

I'm not joking.

Entire semester of tuition (roughly, not counting books) for writing a letter.

She went to a community college for nursing though, not nearly as fund intensive as what you're going for (I imagine), but any amount you don't have to pay is an amount you don't have to pay.

I posted on this topic awhile back for someone else... maybe Fanta? Anyways, I'll share my suggestions despite the fact that it's going to be ultimately unappreciated or I'm going to be insulted in some manner. To effectively participate in this discussion, it'd be helpful to know what your bachelors is in and what previous work experience you've had (doing what, when, and for how long.)

Suggestions:
1) Work. If you have a bachelors degree then you should be able to find a job doing something. Shoot to find an internship that will offer some pay, ideally in your chosen field. Hell, you might even land a low-level position instead of an internship. The reality is most people value experience over a degree, so if you can get both then that'll weigh in your favor. This will look good as it'll help build your resume with professional experience as well as provide some income and/or offset the total cost of loans. If you had two jobs, with a bachelors, and the drive to succeed, I don't see how you couldn't pull in near 40K/yr.

2) Get loans for your education and work to provide a means to live. If I remember correctly, you said you'd have to pay $8000/semester for room and board? (I'm not going to click the 'show post' link a second time, so I'll just roll with it.) That's a ton of cash. You might be able to rent a room with someone for much less, helping save money that way. Doing this would reduce the total needed in loans.

3) Get loans for everything. You're better off than those poor OWS retards that cry for someone to pay for their college educations because... well, someone's been paying for your college education? At least you'll have only two or three years of debt. Hopefully your masters will translate into more pay... that is, assuming you can make a positive impression on the people giving you an interview.

4) Join the military. You'll have to talk to a recruiter to see what benefits they can offer you, but I'm sure you can get some assistance. If you want money, go for a commission. If you don't want to be a bitch, don't get your commission. I'd suggest you join the Marines or Army simply for the fact that you'd do well to be broken. In any case, you'll need to develop interpersonal skills. Being 'Aestu' could likely get your ass beat by someone who isn't behind a computer screen and it's possible superiors can simply turn a blind eye to it. SO YOU CAN BE A COWARDLY DESERTER, LIKE ME, MAKE SURE ALL BENEFITS ARE EXPLICITLY WRITTEN INTO YOUR CONTRACT TO THE MILITARY WELFARE COMPLEX. DON'T TAKE ANY VERBAL PROMISES.

5) Find a job at The Home Depot or some other joint that has a tuition reimbursement program. I used it to pay for 75% of my schooling since, contrary to what you think, my parents or the VaARNG didn't provide much, if any, financial support. The other 25% was covered by using credit cards and working to cover the rest.

6) Stop being an antagonistic fuckface to people around this forum. Someone might have a history with finance, specifically dealing with colleges and financing. Let's hope that person is willing to help you after how much of a dick you've been to them.

7) There are grants and scholarships for people over 30. You're over 30, right? Anyways, just work some google-fu and see what comes up. Apply to everything if you can.

8) Don't use charity. You don't believe in it, despite being on the charitable lifeline of your parents for however long.

Good luck.

Weena - my bad, I realized I was thinking of the Shakers not the Shriners. lol.

1) Because of the shitty economy, entry-level jobs in the field typically require three years' experience.

2) $12.5k for tuition, so closer to $15k. Sharing a room is incredibly marginal in that context.

3) I don't see how going into debt makes me "better off" than anyone. OWS are where they are because they did it and it didn't work out. And yes, there's no difference between Mom&Dad and the government except one is by consent.

4) You don't know much about my life. You'd be surprised how many times I've gotten hit (badly). Violence doesn't impress me, and I don't capitulate.

When you say "break" what you really mean is you want me brought down to your level...but then again you didn't have the balls to serve in the Army or Marines either, so who are you to talk?

Besides, I'd be joining as some sort of specialist/clerk, not a jarhead. I don't need to have ever been in the army to know that desk jockeys aren't into short-sheeting or whatever.

But this is, as expected, the most useful part of your response.
How would I go about getting a commission? And is there an actual benefit to not "going" for one?

5) Interesting. I'll look into that.

6) You wish I had pissed off such a person if they existed. You wish.

7) I just turned 27. I feel fking old. It's depressing.

8) I looked into charity and scholarships. I was surprised - most of those race/gender based crap is really competitive and don't offer much (few hundred/few thousand each, like altogether not even enough for a semester). On a related note, I also discovered that minorities and women have a much higher average debt load than white men even though the latter gets screwed over by the system more in other respects. Ponzi scheme for you.

I have pretty well decided I'm not going to the MA program after all. The main reason why not is I just don't want anything to do with the American educational system. So I have pretty well decided I will either join the army or study in AUS/NZ/CAN.

No. I usually just laugh and mock. It makes them feel powerless.

What lesson should I learn? To be just in awe of thugs? To give into bullying?

Idk, is that how you live your life, when someone tries to intimidate you, you just give in, and you carry forth that attitude into your dealings with others? Or what am I missing here?

The goal of hitting someone is to intimidate them and establish dominance. If the person responds by laughing and mocking, then that removes all leverage. They either have to kill the person or walk away.

Oh how the conversation changes when the 'service' is brought up.

UPS is the answer to everything.

~$5,000 per year for sending in your grades and class expenses each quarter/semester on top of standard pay and dental/medical/eye benefits after some period of time.
